Anyone else as surprised as me that Redknapp dropped Kaboul for Gallas? Kaboul has been excellent for us this season. Its deja vu for Kaboul. Last year when he was playing well he got sent off against Newcastle then never really got a look in

Kaboul is better then Gallas. He is quicker, stronger, taller, andbetter in the air. Dot get me wrong Gallas is still very good I just think Kaboul is better

Order goes

1. King
2. Kaboul
3. Gallas Dawson
5. Bassong

Was I suprised - Yes

Does Kaboul have all the attributes to become a top centre half - Yes

Was Gallas immense tonight - Yes

So happy days...

Stop worrying about ranking players in order, form changes throughout the season as does suitability for each match

Gallas didn't put a foot wrong to be honest. It's easy for people to turn around in hindsight and say we should've started with Kaboul. I can see why Redknapp went for Gallas.

Experienced international centre back, knows the big game pressure well, knows Chelsea well, especially Drogba.

VDV was well and truly anonymous in the first half, after Pav's goal on the Sunday - there's always a good chance a striker will be hungry for more, again I can see Redknapp's reasoning.

I don't agree with the long ball, in fact I hate it - but if hoofing it up to Ade on his own was part of the plan (which again, I don't agree with, it got on my nerves), I can see the rationale why he brought another 6 footer on.

I'm happy to have us mix it up and we haven't seen much of Gallas and King as a partnership. Both very experienced heads.

I'm happy with any combination from Gallas, King and Kaboul.

I do get a bit nervous with Gallas sometimes though but he is experienced, he is exactly what we need at this moment in time, an experienced head. I think Kaboul and Gallas will start at Norwich, giving King a rest for the Swansea game, both games are going to be very tough.

I was surprised that Gallas seemed to be marking Ramires at corners.

I would have thought that him and King would have been earmarked as our best headers' of the ball but King was on Terry and Sandro was marking Drogba/Torres which was strange.

Also gallas did that poor pass to Sandro which led to a good shot from Mata (just sayin'...)

Doesnt matter whether its Kaboul or Gallas, what's important to note was that King played, and we didnt lose. Long live the King. He was immense tonight, and Sturridge couldnt get the better of him.

However, all defenders to be blamed for not playing to the whistle for Chelsea's goal.

I think Gallas only played because he has more experience in BIG games than Kaboul, and he had the added incentive of Chelsea being a former club of his. I believe Kaboul is actually higher on the pecking order than Gallas.

Jesus. WHY after a poor result is it always one player vs. another?

Gallas and King were good against Sunderland and so I presume 'Arry decided to give them another go v. Chelsea.

Kaboul will get his opportunity, as will Dawson, as will (hopefully) a new CB signing in January.

This discussion has aspects to it similar to the one on Parker and Sandro. Old head experience v young athletic tyro with limited exposure. Why do we have to choose other than possibly on a game to basis for tactical considerations. Kaboul and Gallas can and will be recquired to play together for us again this season...unless King has found a miracle elexir, as will Sandro and Parker. It takes a very good squad to challenge for the EPL and don't forget the Fletchers, Nevilles and O'Shea's of the world played a big part in the championships Man Utd won.

can you imagine who does Harry choose from when Dawson is back from injury. King,Kaboul, Gallas and Dawson. By the year 2013 Caulker would have come on in leaps and bounds. a nice headache to have.

My first choice pairing would be King and Kaboul. oh happy days.

I was surprised that Kaboul wasn't playing, but only because I wasn't expecting King to be fit.

Gallas was, IMO, man of the match against Sunderland and, apart from one misplaced pass in the first half that led to the Sturridge chance, he was easily our best defender last night. In both games he has been far better than Ledley.

What surprised me last night was that Drogba won virtually nothing in the air against King, Gallas and Sandro. I was worried that we would miss Kaboul's height but my fears were unfounded. What was a concern, however, was our lack of pace at the back. I just hadn't realised how much the injuries had slowed Ledley down.

Gallas tried to pass out of defence (just before Sturridge scored) and gave it away, presenting Sturridge with an absolute sitter that he blazed over. Dont your remember that one? I thought he and Benny were a bit slack with their marking all night.
