I was at the game too last night. ere is my assessment of the evening.

Really poor and really sublime would be the words to use.

Some of those boys looked out of there depth. The centre halfs Nicholson and Effoto or whatever he was called were both extremely poor.

Was looking forward to seeing parrett and Caroll in centre midfield but again they both had poor games to be fair. I expected parrett to be a lot better than he was too. Not too sure what type of modfielder he is as hes not creative and he isnt a defensive midfielder either.

Was shocked to see the mighty Bostock on the bench. But having watched him warm up and go through hjis opaces during the interval from 15 yards away its all too apparent why he doesnt play. Big time charlie springs to mind. He is lazy couldnbt be bpothered warming up correctly was getting shourted atall before he even got on. He scored a worldy free kick but bar that looked slow and cumbersome. Shewrwood was on his back most of the second half.

Kane has a real off night too as his touch was awful something ive been imressed with him previously.

Iago Falque had a great night. Looks a real player asnd i would certainly have him as a sub as he is a real impact player. Same size and looks ;like van der vaart but the boy has blistering pace. Loves to get a shot away. Switched wings all the time as he loved to cut in on his left and get a shot away. It was only kettering but impressed big time.

Cabellos - Tim sherwood wrote on the web site that they were excited by him and i can see why. Stature of messi. Very skinny but slightly taller than messi. As all barca product would be he is so comfortable with the ball at his feet.

His 2 goals were sheer class. He played so many probing balls neat 1, 2's. He made good runs. He is quick. He has amzaing skill. He was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch and came off to a huge ovation from everyone in the ground.

I knew who he was biut all bnight all you could hear were people saying who is number 7 he's awesome.

Good work out for the young lads as beleive me kettering has out some absolute beasts!!! They were all huge physical men and all in all they competed very well.

The fututre is bright in cabellos and Falque

Top stuff, thanks

Can't say I have high hopes for him given he's 21 and has yet to play a proper senior game in his career:

2008 Barcelona B 1 (1)

2008 Juventus 0 (0)

2009 Bari (loan) 0 (0)

2010–2011 → Villarreal B (loan) 36 (11)

2011– → Tottenham Hotspur (loan) 0 (0)

I hope to be proved wrong but I can't help but think that someone would have given him a chance by now if he had what it takes.

To be fair to him he is 21. He was 20 last year and got a full season under his belt in the spanish fist division (league below La Liga)

He is very confident and i can see how he got 11 goals from midfield last season.

It will take time but i really think this guy will be worthy of a place on the bench very soon. Much much better than townsend IMO.

Lennon is injured and i would love to see the gamble.

We signed him on loan but we have a fee agreed to make it permanent at the end of the season.

Ceballos could be a real star too.

Thanks a lot to those who posted match reports and videos. From a distance Ceballos looks so much like Messi!

I find it unbelievable that a kid as talented as him would be written off at age 18/19 for being too lightweight. For a start, people naturally "fill out" at completely different ages. Some when they're 15, some when they're 30, so there's plenty of time for those shoulders to broaden a bit, but even if they don't, with dedicated gym work and diet you can make such a difference to physical bulk and core strength within even 6 months to a year.

Falque sounds promising too. It does seem odd that Villareal A didn't go for him after having him on loan, but then we don't really know the scenario. They could have bid and been asked for a fee they deemed too much at the time, a fee that we may deem acceptable if he makes his way into our first team squad over the course of the year?

Who knows? All I do know is that you should never write off players who have excellent natural control and pace to go with it. If it's a new tactic of ours to scour Europe for a few of these types of players who haven't quite made it at their current clubs for whatever reason then it's a tactic i'm happy with. Eventually we'll pick up a diamond, let's hope it's one or both of these kids.

So you're going on those stats rather than the guy who actually watched him play?

All I'm saying is that most players who haven't 'made it' by 21 don't tend to do so at all.

That is a gross generalisation though. Yes on the whole, the top players have played at the top level before they are 20 but that isn't always the case. Just look at Cleverley at United.

Without knowing what's happened at his previous clubs it's nigh on impossible to make a judgment on why he hasn't broken through yet. Similarly it's nigh on impossible to make any judgment on a game against Kettering.

I just hope he gets enough games to show us what he's made of. Would be stupid to sign him on loan and then not give him a chance at all.

Yes I hope he does get given some playing time and it's good that he's in the Europa squad. Shame Ceballos isn't

The nature of British football/the media... to write players off if they're 18 and haven't made it yet is pretty sickening.

A fine example is that of Tom Cleverley, now getting his chance at Man Utd, aged 22.

Let's not rush judgements on players. I still have hope for John Bostock!

Isn't Ceballos young enough to play anyway?

not in Europe
18.16 A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1989
and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted
period of two years since his 15th birthday
by the time he is registered with
UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been
registered with the participating club for the previous two years without
interruption.

I'm relly looking foward to seeing Falqwue in the Euopa league,. I hope he gets minutes with Gio. I think he really could be our surprise of the season.

Ceballos is technically a better player but for me he wont be ready to play first team football for a while yet. He needs to get used tio playign agaisnt big men and kettering was a great place to start and make your debut,

He needs games and time with the academy but i think he could be a first teamer come next season.

He doesnt need to go out on loan either as he is too technical for the championship. He would just get kicked about and wouldnt shine at all. Odd as it sounds but he is far better suited to playing in the premiership

Spurs do loan deals and not give them a chance ? Never! Spurs would never bring in a loan deal, like Pletikosa for example and never play them.

Thanks again for the info. I think a large factor in whether players like Ceballos make it is down to mental strength, basically how "ballsy" they are. Messi is a lot stronger now than he was at 18, but even then he had the balls to run at people full pelt time and time again, knowing full well he was going to get knocked to the floor. No problem. Get up. Freekick. Yellow card. Defenders under pressure. Job done. Of course i'm sure he's not as good as Messi, but if he has this kind of determination combined with fantastic ability then he could become an important player for us.
