Just watching Goals on Sunday and the two lads where hammering questions to kevin about Sheffield Utd, trying to get something comtroversial off him like criticising the club etc but he kept his head and didnt say anything bad until..

he said a player came to him an hour before naming a team and said he cant play, hes not injured but he cant play. Kevin made him tell him why he cant and it was because when the player was putting his kid to bed the night before the kid did something and the player asked the kid about it and he said its grandads secret. Kevin said they won the game 3 nil and that he was heavily criticised for leaving the player out for that match.

If you are a blades fan surely that wouldnt be too difficult to figure out who the player is. I couldnt beleive it when he came out with it, such a breach of trust. can you imagine how that player feels this morning if hes watching the show, he'd be bricking it that fans will figure out who he is and this tragic incident in his family will become common knowledge.

Am i wrong in thinking he was bang out of order? granted he didnt name the player directly but if 'arry said same thing it wouldnt take us long to figure out who the player was

Sorry I may have got the wrong end of the stick here.

Did he kind of say that the player withdrew from the team as he had found out the previous night that he kid was being fiddled with by a grandparent? Or am I just making that up?

Definately sounds like the grandad did something wrong..........

he didnt elaborate on the kid story but definitely took it that the grandad did 'interfer' with the kid in some way, that was the impression. considering the 'its grandads special secret' line i cant think what else it would be. He said he told the player to take off as much time as he needed so it had to be bad

I really hope this is just a Werther's Originals related misunderstanding, if not then the manager has no business talking about it.

i was hoping that i misunderstood it but missus was watching it too and she was disgusted that he would talk about something like that.

hoping some others saw it and will pop in here later and tell me im wrong but if im not then he shouldnt of brought it up and the player will be found out

That is exactly how I interpreted it. He was using it as an example of how difficult life is for a manager, having to make decisions and not publicise the reasons, then take the flack. However, I suspect he's just made someone else's life rather difficult now.

good to know it wasnt just us who interrupted it that way, was starting to doubt myself but was an extremely example of poor judgement by him because as you said the player will be have a very very difficult time now. hope for the players sake the media doesnt pick up on it and try and find out who the player is but any blades fans watching it will probably already know who it is from Blackwell saying the game was 3-0 and he was given stick for not starting the player at the time

And it's a shame because up until then he'd come over really well, with his twin brother, and as you say, he was really calm and rational about getting the sack and refused to say anything controversial. He just didn't think this one through.

Crikey yes, I've just realised that it will be absolutely obvious to Blades fans won't it?

yea it definitely should be alright. he was only in charge for 2 years and it was a 3 nil game so wouldnt be too hard for them to work it out. real shame, best of luck to the player hopefully this doesnt get out who it was.

poor kid

a 30 second search has told me it was 1 of 7 teams. Not hard at all for a fan of Sheff United to work out who the player involved was. Shocking by Blackwell

Now all you would have have to do is look at the team lists and see which one has a regular first teamer absent, that was playing the game before.

The whole subject should be dropped immediately, especially on forums like here, these kind of things can quickly spiral out of control and do noone any favours when speculation is rife. If Blackwell can't keep his mouth shut then maybe we should.

Not having a pop at you guys or playing wannabee mod, just putting it up there out of caution and respect with regard to future comments. Easy tigers.

Ok, lets research into Sheffield United 3-0 wins! Lets check the lineups, lets get to the bottom of this!

made me

On topic though, does sound like Blackwell's made something of a gaff - surely his common sense bone should've kicked in at some point and told his mouth to stop opening?

I blame drugs.

I was quite serious, i think i know who it is now.

Was made difficult by the nobbers getting two 3-0 midweek home wins but after some in depth analysis i believe i have got my man.
