Oh no!

Kieron Dyer appeared to play his final game for Newcastle at Carlisle on Saturday while Joey Barton played his last for six weeks having broken a metatarsal. Barton will undergo surgery today and is set to miss Newcastle's first three or four Premier League games. If it is four, then he will not be seen until the game at Derby County on September 17.

Given that Barton was handed the Newcastle captaincy on Saturday, and that he is Sam Allardyce's biggest signing at £5.8m, his loss is pivotal. However, it does not mean that Newcastle will persuade Dyer not to leave, with the club apparently preparing to receive an offer for him from West Ham, Tottenham or Manchester City this week. It is unlikely Newcastle would turn down £5m or more.

Guardian.

We MUST be able to do better than this injury-prone, borderline international. Is he really any better than Jenas?

Too injury prone and a bit of a cock - Shame cos I had high hopes for him as a youngster but never fulfilled his potential for those two reasons.

His wages are too high also...

Might not be want we really want but I would still have him if he was going cheap.

Just towards the end of last season he was rediscovering his form where he was able to make his way back into the England setup.

I believe with players like Jenas and Defoe here, who is alledgedly goods mate with, he would be of benefit to us.

Seeing how we played against Kaiser Chiefs over the weekend, we are still flattering to deceive and will need all the help we can get to move up the next level.

clearly igf he joined he'd have to take a wage cut - so like Bent that would be a good sign

Our mid looked frighteningly threadbare on Sat - we need to add probably two players - a CM and a winger - Dyer could do a bit of both - so if he could pass a medical I'd take him at the right price etc

At the right price, id take Dyer.
I also think if he left Newcastle it may give him a new lease of life, cant help but feel he is stagnant there.

Yes please.

I would take him in a flash if he is fit.

Bad news lads. This from Grays yid on FTL last night:

from royce on coys

Evening all guys

before i start just want to say ive never claimed to be ITK, i know its a bit of an old cliche, but the only other bit of info i ever gave some of you may remember was the bale info - back in march or thereabouts, i knew someone within his family - and they told me he was signed up long before it was announced

this comes from the same source - now before you think bale just gossips with family about all the people coming in and out of spurs - its not how it is - but bale recently did have a chat with my mate - told him a few things. A lot, in credit to the ITKs, was what they were saying weeks ago - petrov, kaboul signed ect - so well done to them for clearly spot on info

anyway ** here it is **

basically said that lot of the guys are getting excited at training (this was before SA) said some of the lads were saying dyer was on his way - jenas defoe etc were particulary happy apparently. said it wasnt done but dyer was texting them saying it was a very good possibility.

anyway this was last week, yesterday i text me mate again to find out any more info about this and he text me back tonight saying : last i herd from him he said it was very close to being complete - also commented on how the media have only just picked up on it

so anyway there it is guys

i for one would be happy with dyer, always impresses me on england games so suppose it wouldnt be a bad signing. and if it keeps the likes of jenas defoe etc happy then suppose its not a bad signing.

ill let you know if he tells me any more.

Another poster (meursault) has posted 'it's not dyer' as if this could be a smokescreen. But he doesn't say who for.

BBC Gossip page says:

Kieron Dyer will stay at Newcastle - for now - because of Joey Barton's injury. (The Sun)

surprised jenas is exited that he could be joining (unles he fancies him) as they would be competing for the same place

However if Dyer is willing to cover leenon when injured he would be a very good versitile midfield option to have on the bench as he could cover both left wing, right wing and attacking central midfield

I would probably prever if we spent 12m on him and petrov rather then wright-phillips

Talented player if he remains fit, but again attitude is an issue. Reported going around Newcastle training ground discussing wages a few years back and was nicknamed "60 clicks" by Shearer and all cos he was bragging about earning £60k a week. Not the sort of player we need to be honest, but if he was taking say Murphy's place in the squad then that an improvement, he wont be guaranteed first team footy so not sure what his motivation will be.
No diss to the ITK on this one but we have seen before a friend of a friend getting one thing right-then carry on with “info” that is plausible but wide of the mark.

what's wrong with Stalteri?...he just finished captaining Canada in the Concacaf tounamnet, playing 90 minutes in all 5/6 games!

I think he would be great if we use him in the same way England use him - coming on for the last twenty minutes to destroy a knackered defence.

Great player. Could be our Freddy Ljungberg of recent years if he stays fit.

IMO it's got West Ham written all over it, we'll offer him 30, maybe 35k a week, WH can come in with 50-60k. No guesses on what one he'd choose.

Good player though not sure it's what we need.

Hammers ready to nail down Dyer

West Ham are poised to firm up their interest in Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer this week after injury robbed them of new boy Julien Faubert.

Faubert, a £6.1million summer recruit, has been sidelined for six months with an Achilles tendon problem and boss Alan Curbishley is eager to replace him with the 28-year-old Dyer.
The England under-achiever is believed to be chasing a fresh challenge after eight years on Tyneside and after reported talks with Sam Allardyce the Newcastle boss will not stand in his way as long as his Toon spending is allowed to continue.
Magpies new boy Joey Barton will miss the start of the season with a broken foot, but that is unlikely to derail Dyer's St James' Park exit.
Manchester City and Tottenham are also believed to be keen on Dyer, who has yet to fulfill his huge potential.

Good news i say. Wouldnt want Dyer anywhere near the team. If it is an attacking midfielder which we want (although it is quite clear we could do with a more defensive player) then there are other players i would rather have above dyer.

I still remember the newcastle cham league match again Barca - when dyer just lent against the post and watched the ball roll past him over the line. :duh:

but he was unfit for too many games last season and suffered injury problems in training schedules last season. you can see a lot of that in team news before every game.
