If...and for me it's still a very big if...Ledley can stay fit then I think him and Woodgate would be one of the best centre back pairings in Europe and if we get a decend keeper in behind them and a decent defensive mid in front of them that would be one hell of a spine to the team.

Far too many ifs in there at the moment but here's hoping!

Cheers for the info yiddodiddodo

Defo agree TSH

The following defence would be one of the best in the country:

-----------£10 million GK--------

Hutton----King----Woody-----Bale

I think that defence is better than Liverpool's or Arsenal's.

It's all coming together (hopefully)!!!

I mean realistically, next season this could be our line up:

--------------£10 million GK----------

Hutton-----King------Woody-----Bale

Lennon-----Modric----Veloso-----Dos Santos

-------------Keane----Berbs-----------

That's a pretty tasty first 11!!

I think Bale and Hutton have a fair bit to prove defensively (especially Bale) but I agree it would be a very exciting back 4.

Woodgate and King are very very very different type of defenders.

Woodgate:

pos:is great tackler, good head, intersepts the ball well

neg: no nonsence defender (Good and Bad) (dosent play the ball when he can, gives away corners which could of been prevented ect.)

King

pos: is great tackler, great head, immaculate interceptor Very very fast, great delivery, good positioning/marking, both footed, scores inside and outside of box (with either foot) and headed goals, only booked 4 times, never sent off, cna and has played CB, full back and CM to PL and international standard and younger.

neg: always injured recently

I make you kind of right they are different in that King can do things woody can't but theres nothing woody can do that king can't. I've editted above

we wouldnt be able to sign another defender of kings class ....for me he is the single best centre half in england...
hed be like a 25m new signing .,....

i genuinly feel we could replace berbs ...

I actually think that King is probably the best Centre Back in the world.

On top form, (which I know we havnt seen a lot of recently), there isnt a centre back that I can think of that can match him in ability.

Woodgate is also very good but lacks King's pace

Why does he have to go to Barcelona to have his knee checked? Is Barcelona the centre of knee excellence? All the knee specialists flood to Barcelona to work? Where do the elbow specialists congregate?

What he said...
Ive thought for a long time King is the best around, just never fit long enough to prove it. When he plays for England he looks a cut above whoever he plays alongside... I genuinely think that if he can stay fit for 2 yrs solidly he will prove to be one of the world all time great defenders.

As for Woody - He has all the attributes King has (including the lack of ability in staying fit) but is not as fast as king. Woodgate is by no means slow but I dont think I have EVER seen Ledley get outpaced.

And if they stay fit, Berba sticks around and we do get our quality GK & DM (& Bently to supply quality from the right!!), then I think the Uefa cups in the bag, as is at least 3rd in the Prem.

Fingers crossed, touching wood (oo-er missus) - Heres to next season!

Completely agree with the above (bold parts specifically). His tackle on Robben still gives me chills thinking about it. :hump:I would rather have the best defender in the world fit than have berbatov stay.

For good measure, Terry is a ****.

I am not as confident, as many, about King....He has spent a long time 'on the bench' and he 'may' have lost some of what we regarded as WC talent? I think that we are getting into the typical....English WC players who are regarded as average in most other Leagues? That said I have always admired King and his speedy and graceful interuptions to many 'genuine' WC attackers dreams!
On a brighter note, I am seriously looking ahead to this season...as always, but we are genuine contenders for CL qualification (and a Euro Trophy to add to our Trophy Cabinet?). On the other hand perhaps we should not get too carried away....well not until we have proved our 'class' over the first few weeks of this season?
Ledley will prosper....I hope, and Spurs will follow, close at hand (No mentioning knees though? lol)
COYS!
