it's only the Daily Fail but they reckon Lambert wants to take him to Villa, wouldn't be surprised if they make a bid

Chris Hughton is concerned that his predecessor as Norwich boss, Paul Lambert, will win the race to sign Kyle Naughton.
Norwich have contacted Tottenham about a £4m deal for Naughton after he spent last season on loan at Carrow Road but Lambert wants to make the 23-year old his first signing for Aston Villa.

Hmmm... Don't want to strengthen Villa personally.
If we're still selling Corluka I'd keep Kyle II as back up for both full-backs, he's capable of playing either side.

Storts says there are legs to that story. What is it with us and not giving our own talent a chance?

He'd be a perfect part of the squad for us so I see no reason why we would possibly get rid. If we sell all of our squad players just because they want regular gametime then we will end up with backups who aren't going to be worth using and would make our side significantly worse when called upon. I can't see us doing that. Think Levy would ask a lot of money for a young player like Naughton, probably way more than he is actually worth.

young, english quota and cover both full backs. Its no wonder Lambert wants him as he is a bargain at only 4 mill.

I called this last week. Seems an obvious transfer.

It seems like an obvious link for Lambert to go in for him, but not an obvious transfer, certainly not at £4mil. Levy is always one to ask for huge amounts for our players and as Jonboy said he has a lot of things going for him that are only going to push up his potential value in Levy's mind.

nothing wrong with them making an offer, whether we sell or not may be a different thing

I'd like to think we'd keep Naughton this summer, with Corluka no doubt leaving, there should be game time for Naughton available.

I dont know dude, I just thought it would be likely that he would make him one of his first targets. Hes a good player that should only get better and is superior to Hutton and also relatively cheap.

I agree with all of that except the last two words. I just can't see him being cheap, this is Levy.

We certainly shouldn't be selling Naughton. He's a like for like replacement for Walker and as such provides a much better backup option than Corluka. As others have said, he's also good on the left.

But even if the story has legs, that means no more than that they are likely to put in a bid for him. Whether we're willing to sell or not is a totally different matter.

I guess it depends if we sell Corluka, as to whether we let Naughton go. It will be one or the other. I cant imagine a situation where we'd let both go so we'd have no cover at right back..............oh no, wait a minute!

More than £4mil or they can forget it.

Much more I'd have thought. Naughton had an excellent season with Norwich and proved he can play as eiter a left or right back (and even at right mid for a couple of games possibly).

Walker obviously had a great season but it would be good to have competition in that area. Also think that a more defensive fullback would be no bad thing to have in the squad for those games where we don't want Walker hareing off down the wing all the time.

Maybe by the time the bid comes in we'll have a manager who realises the worth of using his squad a bit more.

The story may well have legs - but as others have said, not at £4m for a player with one season's Premiership experience and 2 previous years as the Championship's no 1 RB.

Naughton is 23, think he has 1 year left on his contract and has had a decent season playing most of the games in the Premiership with Norwich. Will he want to come back and be seen as a backup fullback ? Possibly or possibly not.

Will Spurs want to sell - well one decision which will have to be made is whether Naughton wants to extend his contract. If not Spurs will sell him rather than risk him walk away in one year.

Spurs do have options in Adam Smith who made his first team debut in the final game of the season. He is 3 years younger than Naughton, closer in style to Walker (so less changes required to team shaoe when Smith plays) and can also play right back and left back. So Naughton going is not the end of the world for Spurs.

Naughton will come back here before going anywhere and had a good long chat with H about him being in his plans !!
So Kyle has more chance of being here than Harry!!!
He had a good solid season at Norwich and is a better player than Smith. Doubtful that Charlie will return.

Good news. I personally think it would be madness to let him go now after our investment in him.

Hopefully Smith stays too though. We shouldn't be selling a decent player that came through the ranks.
