you assume he won't impress, I think he already has.
Mind you its good Andros is playing well as that will gee up Lamela to earn his place.
I don't assume that, what I assume is that some people will be on his back after 10 minutes regardless.

sorry, where was it that I said that?I personally think its something that should be applauded, wheather you like him or not, being the top 5 goal scorers in our clubs history is an achievement, IMO of course. Your argument that unless the team wins anything there should be no applause, no appreciation for anyone in the team? Come on I dont by that one bit, if that were the case us Spurs fans would appreciated no one in our team and we would be all a buch of moany bastards.
So does that make Sir Tom Finney not as great, or even Jurgen or Ginola or even Gazza (one FA Cup win aside)? I think by trying to gauge/qualify how well a player has performed by the trophies he has won is dangerous territory with us. Considering our assumed status we haven't actually won that much, especially when put into context alongside individual 'greats' and some of our competitors.
sorry, where was it that I said that?
You weren't aware of Spurs legends like Smith, Chivers & Jones?
And scoring 139 goals for Spurs is not much more than a statistical inevitability, rightyo.
"have his goals led to any sort of success? nope."
That's the way it comes across in your post, I wasn't the only person to read it that way either. I don't see how you can't say a modern day footballer in our squad today being in the top 5 scores of all time a irrelevant statistic, I think it's a great achievement for him personally.
why don't you put that into the context of everything I said, rather than singling out that one bit?
of course I was aware of them, but without looking up the list, I wouldn't have known they were all on it. I knew Greavsie was #1, but it would never usually occur to me to look up the list unless someone else came along and threatened to equal or better it
for a centre-forward playing 350 matches, I'd say it was definitely a statistical inevitability he'd get that many. it's 2 goals every 5 matches. that's decent, but not really anything more than that.
Actually it's 139 goals in only 235 starts.
Incredible the bloke is our top goal scorer for the last 40 years and 5th of all time and you call it nothing more than decent!
What has happened to the fans of this club!

so you include the goals he's scored as sub, but not the sub appearances themselves? how convenient.
by all means hail it as some sort of seismic achievement if you want, but to me it isn't, and I can probably name at least 10 better strikers in my time watching Tottenham
But you can't name one who's scored more goals for us in the last 40 years can you?

Because he's played for Spurs for far longer than most strikers do...
It's a bit like if Dawson stays for a few more years and ends up having the most clean sheets kept in the last 40 years. A great achievement for him, but it doesn't make him one of our best defenders ever.
Could you name them, you are around the same age as me and I certainly can't think of 10 that are clearly better in my lifetime of watching Tottenham.
Berbatov

Postiga (definitely not for us)
