I've seen numerous posts from Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd fans saying they would want Lamela in their squad, even though he didn't perform in his first season.

One of my friends is a massive Roma fan (and a Pool fan, too :cautious:) and he's super jealous that we have Lamela as he said he would absolutely love to see him in a Liverpool shirt.

I really don't understand how much hate he's getting. He's hardly pulled up trees, but this was only his 4th start in the Prem, and his first in 8 months... He wasn't amazing, and he seems to be trying too hard with all the unnecessary ball roles etc, but he's basically starting over again and it's clear he's still not used to the pace of the Prem. People need to give him time.

I see a very special player; one of very few we have! He's hardly played over the course of a year...injury...upheavals at the club and in own young life. He's going to f..k up as he's finding his feet and the pace of the PL. Can we actually cut some slack to a player who will become at the very least, a very, very good player if he's given the chance?

I'll be honest, I never wanted us to buy Lamela. Part of that was based on ignorance (I don't watch a lot of Italian football) but also because it was a fuck of a lot of money to spend on a 21 year old who had had one decent season with Roma. I thought of the quality of young players we could have bought with that money and after perusing a few YouTube vids I wasn't convinced buying Lamela was the best use of our funds.

That's all water under the bridge now however. We did buy him. He hasn't been great and he spent most of his time in the treatment room. If we could get our money back then fine.

But we're not going to get our money back or anything like it. If we sell him now we will take a massive hit. We have brought in a manager whose main talent is developing young players; in fact, i'd go so far as to say that that is exactly why we brought Poch in. So to sell Lamela now makes no sense at all. It would be like selling your motorcycle and spending the money on a new set of leathers and a helmet.

It's not as if Lamela hasn't shown glimpses that the talent is there. I found it quite frustrating how people were drooling over Erik in the pre-season while ignoring how well Capoue and Mason were playing, but Lamela did show enough so that even a cranky old bastard like me who didn't want him here in the first place can see the boy has some skills.

So let's let Poch do his thing, get off Erik's back and see how he develops. Some players take a while to come good (there was a kid called Bale once ...). We can revisit this topic in a year or two's time.

No the biggest problem is that he's trying to hard and ignores the simple passes.

Play it simple and then do the clever stuff when you're more confident.

Yesterday he was trying flicks and tricks and losing possession when the clever thing was a simple ball to a player in space.

Time will tell if he has a footballing brain or not, at present it doesn't look like it based on how he's playing.

Poch should have a word with him and get him playing it simple first.

Absolutely. I know I'll get hammered for this, but he reminded me a bit of Taarabt in that he held the ball for too long and when he did try to pass he was trying the ultimate through ball, when there was often a full back/wide player in space available for him. He needs to learn to play high percentage balls most of the time and not try the killer ball when it's so low percentage. Away from home, it's important we both keep the ball and move it quickly, Lamela did neither very well at all.

If he's played 15-20 successive PL games and by Xmas is still playing like yesterday then let's shit our pants and declare him a potential white elephant, but until then let's hold fire and let Poch build up his confidence and just show some patience. The kid needs to play some regular football and get into a rhythm.

That's conclusive.

Meh, that's different. Nobody is saying Andros has done nothing at all good, whereas ppl are saying that about Lamela, hence the vid.

I didn't post it to prove how good he is, I posted it in response to the pll who are saying he's done nothing. (y)

Agree! I like both players. Both are players that we need to keep. They change games and give us an attacking threat we sorely need. Lamela didn't have a great game yesterday, but so many others didn't either; others that have had far more game time than he's had over the last year. How can we build anything if we have no patience with young creative players?

Right now I would have Townsend in ahead of Lamela.

Don't think he has what it takes to be a success in this league. I have seen nothing to suggest otherwise.

Probably more suited to the Spanish or Italian leagues.

Sorry but from what I've seen so far a massive £30m flop

I think the hate is down to a couple of things. Firstly he was very very expensive and, for whatever reason, he has shown next to nothing in return.

Secondly there are a lot of people talking about how good he is, or about how much 'potential' he has and, because he has shown very little, there is a natural reaction the other way. There is a worry he's another GDS who seems to be amazing at everything except actually playing for Tottenham.

I think the haters and optimists egg each other on.

You don't have to apologise for being wrong, my friend.

The problem is that you, like the rest of us have only seen him play a handfull of games because he's been injured/benched. I'm not saying he's been brilliant because he's not, but we've just not seen enough yet to be able say with any degree of certainty that he won't make it here.

The only way he's sure to fail is if we sell him before he has the chance to prove us wrong or even worse, if he's kept on the bench. I'll tell you what though, it will royaly piss me off if the head of steam he's built up over pre season is blown away by our own fans grumbling about him during the next home game.

Based on what I've seen from Andros in a spurs shirt, in a qpr shirt, and an England shirt!

Lamela has done absolutely nothing in this country so far.

Why do you think Lamela will be a success then? Please enlighten me
Townsend has played 68 times for QPR, England and Tottenham combined.

Lamela has played for us 17 times.

How on earth can you make a judgement based on that?

I don't understand the thinking or logic of some of our supporters - it drives me mad!

Lamela is a Spurs players and we should get behind him. It's clear as day that the boy has talent although nobody can say for sure if he'll be the success in the Prem that we all (well most of us) hope.

All I do know is that the negativity isn't going to help and making snap judgements after an injury hit first season and one game this season defies sense.
