I don't believe that we bid 90 million euros. I don't believe Inter would have turned down 90 million euros. I also don't believe we'll be signing him. To me this feels like a PR move from Inter - oh look at us turning down a huge bid, we're totally not broke, honest.
Odd one bc I feel like the comments from his agent are PR. "We really want to stay we are talking to the club on Wednesday to see if we can't work out a new contract" so when he leaves it's not his fault.

There will not be any relevant updates on Lautaro Martinez until Wednesday, either they can’t find an agreement with Inter in their Wednesday meeting and that opens a possibility for us to get him, or they agree on a new contract for him, effectively ending our interest in this window.

Let's be honest, if Martinez ends up leaving Inter Milan this summer it won't be his decision anyway. It will be because Inter need to sell. I still doubt it will happen but these comments smack of PR.

I have been wondering all day why his agent keeps talking in the press. The usual play is to just say nothing or vague wishy washy could be interpreted either way in case a deal does materialize you don't have to backtrack. My guess is because of the major backlash to selling Lukaku, many of it directed at him personally, the agent is setting the baseline narrative to protect his client and he's already laid the pressure on the Inter board to deliver his client the money he wants or sell him and it's their fault not his.

Or reporters keep asking him what’s going on given the speculation and he is just answering honestly?

So hope you’re right though.

Of course I think he'd being honest to some extent but business isn't about honesty. I think it's smart of his agent to make sure all the pressure is on Inter to deliver one way or another. I googled his agent's name and he definitely seems of the Barnett never shuts up model.

I dont think we will get this guy but confusing because Inter wouldnt be able to turn down a substantial deal.

I think perhaps Icardi whilst different player could be gotten on loan with a view to seeing how things pan out next summer.

Just smart agent work. Just puts all of the pressure on Inter. Either give him a huge payrise to stay or we'll get him a move elsewhere, with the fans knowing who was at fault.

90 million euros would be an absolute disgrace for Lautaro. He's really not that good.

TBH Inter and his agent are becoming a joke the longer this goes on. If reports are true, you don't turn down €90mil when you are in such serious shit of debt. They should have asked for €150mil for Lukaku then and could have gotten that from chelscum. Dense.

Inter have managed to get short term funding and at the start of the window Inter sources were saying everyone was for sale apart from Lukaku, Barrella and Bastoni (I think) having sold Lukaku I very much suspect that they would like to, and quite possible will keep Lautaro.

Inters financial mess is a very particular and strange circumstance that isn’t even directly linked to Covid (though is worsened by it) it’s also one that might have a resolution some time soon and getting to the CL will still be a priority. I don’t think they need sell their best players anymore, something Lautaro now falls under which wasn’t the case at the start of the window.

Inter don't want to sell him.
He is happy to stay at Inter.

Although I believe both of the above statements are true, I think they both come with the same caveat - i.e. as long as he signs a new contract. Why schedule contract talks now, 2 weeks before the transfer window shuts, if all parties are happy with the current status?

He has 2 years remaining on his current deal, apparently on something like £40k-£50k pw.

From Inter's point of view, they won't want to get to next summer with 1 year remaining and his transfer value to drop accordingly.

From the player's side, he knows he's worth significantly more than he's currently being paid (and his agent knows too, as he's almost certainly had discussions with PL suitors about what they would be willing to offer).

If Inter are willing and able to offer a new contract with significantly more money for Lautaro, then he will stay. I guess it all depends on the real state of Inter's finances, and whether they can afford to put a contract offer on the table that matches - or at least gets close to - whatever Lautaro could earn elsewhere.

Inter are a huge club, big financial mess or not, after giving up on Hakimi and Lukaku I can not see them throwing in the towel completely on their squad.

Wouldn't be too surprised if they have a new owner soon and they get back on track. There is just nothing but hope that keeps this rumour alive.

Looks a good player but I still can’t see where we would play him?

A few peeps have suggested on right but Moura was very good there against Man City and in kind of system we’re playing I‘m wondering if Nuno will prefer having a pacy specialist wide player out there?

Just wonder if we should be looking at forwards who can definitely lead the line on their own and creative players who are comfortable playing wide.

Don‘t get me wrong still an exciting player and if we did get him and managed to play a system that got best out of him would be very happy but looks a little like a square peg in a round hole at moment.
