Does the selection of Ledley tonight mean that he is fully recovered and can play at the w/e or are we putting the League Cup as our top priority this year?:duh:

I'm hoping that he was dropped against Wigan because he was shit, which he was, against Krakow.

It's too early, in my opinion, to think that he can play every game, or that he is back to his best, just as it was too early to recommend he be retired or put out to stud, as some suggested.

He did okay today, a couple of mistakes, but better than last week.

Judging by poyets post match interview, it's clear that everyone knows we need to improve in the league, so I doubt whether they think that isn't the priority.

But fingers crossed.

Just what I posted in anoter thread.

Why waste one of his limited appearances in a Carling Cup match?

On a scale of 10 to Dawson, how shite?
He is also a great leader which we are short of.
Glad that Jamie had a good game, he never seems to get the run in the side he deserves.
PS I am envious of your 2 icons; Paul StewHurts and Archibald. While I am stuck with Sedge.

It wasn't like you were waiting for Leds to make a mistake, which with all due respect to Daws over the last season or so, is kinda what I have been doing.

But the fact that he made mistakes was the thing that stood out, in addition to the fact that rather than glide effortlessly over the pitch like he normally does, against Krakow he seemed to be struggling.

Not fully there based on today, as still some mistakes, but a big improvement compared to last week.

It means Ledley is by no means as badly injured as the doom-mongers, liars and Graham "Today Talksport listeners, Ledley King told me he was retiring at the end of the season, I promise" Roberts would have you believe, but that he needs to be managed on a week-by-week basis so he plays in the most important games.

In the less important/easier games, Dawson or Corluka can do a perfectly good job in his stead if they have Jonathan "Am I the best defender in the world ever, ever? Bobbins of SC certainly thinks so" Woodgate alongside them.

Ledley is simply proving every week that the lies of the last two years are finally behind him. McGrath played for years with a managed condition, and it's clearly what they're doing for Ledley. If he can play 30-35 games a season, we'll have our real Ledley back.

I tell you what, footballers and so-called pundits have fucking long middle names, these days, have you noticed?

Why was it a waste of a performance? I am sure he will miss a fair few games this season, but perhaps there is more of a strategy to the whole thing than simply playing the guy in our 'biggest' games. Newcastle have pace up front, which Corluka, Woody and Dawson do not posess in abundance. King is pretty quick. so it makes sense for him to play. Against Wigan, however, Corluka and Woody coped well because they pose a different attacking threat. It was also a chance to try Corluka in the middle, which worked well. I am sure (or at least I hope) there is more to it than just wheeling out Ledley King everytime he is fit enough for a game, and I really doubt he will be strictly limited to 1 game a week for the entire season.

Seems that the once a week rule is in force for Ledders, I dont think it is surprising that this means he will play in the second leg in Krakow (but not on sunday)

If he can manage that then it will be ok. The problem is he could pick up an injury and his season be over like that. Anyone else get worried when he got fouled in the second half last night? Every time he gets challenged you are holding your breath.

It is depressing how we save our 'best player' for the fucking Carling Cup isn't it? Under Jol this shit would have never happened.

the game was a game we needed to win, not just to go further in a cup (one with an automatic european place) but also one to help kick start our season

Poyet said in post match interview on bbc site that we cant play ledley twice in 3 days, that they need to manage him, or something like that. given the high number of games seems we'll at best play him once a week, and those games will be picked and chosen. Id love Ledley to play every week, but itd rather him play every 2nd game than play the next 8 in a row, and then be crocked again for 2 months.

my bet is management looked at our run of games, saw the toon match and the uefa qualifiers sandwiched between the league games and basically decided leds will play the midweekers.

if we happen to get knocked out of cups and our matches reduce to 1 a week in general, we'll start to see him every match.

But by playing him in the carling cup he only misses a league game then can play in UEFA. Under Jol this WOULD have happened.

how many people would be against seeing him play once a week?

thats more than most of us expected. and by looking at my calender thats around 40 games/weeks from the start to end of the season

what a poor return, sell him/retire him!

Oh please, for the love of god stop it. It's getting boring now.
This is the same Carling Cup that means we are in European competition this season. You DO realise this yes?
Your Ramos baiting is getting quite puerile now mate, how about you get behind the team? Ramos is here, Jol isn't. I'm not particularly impressed with Ramos either so far, but he is our manager so he gets my support. That's how it works right?

A little constructive comment in your posts rather than the same old bile wouldn't go amiss either.

And to stay on topic. I think Jol would have treated the situation exactly the same way, which happens to be the right way. imo.

You're right, under Jol he would have played two games in a week, broken down, and then miss the next six months.

But would this actually be the case? Who knows.

He played, we won, for both of those reasons be happy.

As the saying goes, some people consider the glass half empty, some consider it to be half full.

Me, well my outlook is that by the time that conundrum has come along I've already got another pint ordered, so I'm even happier than I was when I started drinking.

I get the impression that your outlook is more that you would have had a glass half empty/half full, but in your state of mind you put the glass down too hard, cracked the bottom of it, then next time you looked at it all the contents had leaked out, over your crotch, so not only did you think you were even worse off than you thought you were, but you pissed yourself just to make matters worse.

Cheer up my old mucker.

I hope that was meant as a joke. If it wasn't, I actually hate you now. If it was, well, be careful with your jokes next time.
