POTL has said in the ITK forum ledley has been offered a new deal, i do hope its for coaching and not playing!!

The guy is a legend but enough is enough we need a settle back 4 and we wont be able to have that with king in and out of the squad. It has to be him or gallas and gallas's fitness is looking a lot better long term ie to the end of next season.

Towards the end of last season his pace was gone and he was giving up running back with attackers if he ran more than 20 feet.

All I would say is that towards the end of last season it was reported he was carrying an injury, and would think that if the club are offering a new deal, that after all this time they would have a good idea of how many games at his top level they can get out of him in a season.

On his day he is one of the best CB's in the PL, but those days are becoming less and less. Unfortunately he's getting slower and isn't reading the game as well as he used to. Not to mention how much further damage is being done to him over time.
We need to look to the future, the future is Caulker, Kabs and (hopefully) JV rotating, but stable.
Decent backup when available but cannot command a starting spot and I would expect all of Bass, Gallas and Nelson to be shifted in some capacity if King is given a new deal.

To be fair all we ever see of the King is 90 minutes every other week or so. The coaching team are with him every day and have a better idea of what he is capable of doing next season. I'll trust their opinion I think.

Lets not forget that he was playing on 1 leg because there was a run of matches when only King, Gallas and the pointless Nelsen available. Not many players would have even been out there. We would never have lost 5-1 in the semi if he had been 100 % Depending on what the doctors say I would give him another 12 months but keep him mostly on the bench . If not then he deserves a place in the backroom team . Would hate us to treat him like Mabbutt or Perryman

Hasty to offer him a new deal now, should be waiting for him to recover from this latest bout of surgery and assess how he comes back from it before offering him a new contract.

Redknapp said his last injury was a very bad one and he hasn't been the same since, I didn't expect him to recover

What happened with them did we mistreat them?

We need to establish a consistent CB pairing, we have messed about with injury prone players and we need to stop doing that.

Well if our frontline CBs next year are Kaboul, Verthongen, Gallas, Caulker then having Ledders around as a stop gap and maybe even a part time coaching role wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, we just can't rely on him being 100% fit and our defensive lynchpin any more.

My head says to be cautious with offering such an injury prone player a new contract.
My heart says someone who has shown such dedication to Tottenham Hotspur should be rewarded with a new contract every year until he can literally no longer walk.

imperious.

Absolutely. And the only reason his form dipped is because he was playing with an injury and through the pain barrier.

Don't like the thought of him, Gallas and Nelsen still all being on the books though. I would rather we had a first team central pairing of Caulker and Tongers.

I voted yes, because 'pay-as-you-play' plus some form of coaching role for a season is acceptable to me.

Although, I hope the trainee goalkeeper who injured him last season is still running the gauntlet of ultimate hate (joking) :X3: .

King hasn't been imperious for some time, and he was awful towards the end. very much hope this isn't true. I don't mind him coaching but it's doesn't say much for us if we continue to rely on a player capable of a handful of games, half of which are not good.

I'd rather keep Gallas on the books than King as a player.

Pay as you play maybe ?

Would love to keep him around, Was a world class centre back who has seen his injuries take their toll and seems to be a real Tottenham guy. We moan about lack of player loyalty, we need to show some loyalty to Ledley for his determination to keep playing through the pain barrier for us.
