What's up with You guys? It's only 4 months since everyone was signing Kings praise. I for sure would love to keep him for 1-2 more years if his injury isn't to bad.

POTL meant Spursking not Ledley King, he's been offered a new deal as our African scout (easy mistake to make given his avatar)

We need Ledley at the club, doesn't matter if he plays or manages or picks up trash, he is a vital part of Tottenham and we will be less of a club if he leaves.

My problem with all this is not if Ledley can or can't perform , my concern is that we will have another season when our back 4 doesn't know who is playing untill after Ledleys fitness test on the day of the game, surely that disrupts all the defensive work we would be doing all week with the coaches on the training ground, or do we just turn up unprepared and have some poor bugger on standby if Ledley can't make it.This can't be right at this level week in week out.

get Vertonghen in pronto as main pairing with Kaboul
With Ledley as mentor for Caulker and Dawson returning
we have an experienced quartet who should be more than adequate.
Ledley as the fifth man if required.
Goodbye and thankyou Gallas and Nelsen both past it at this level.

If it's pay as you play, then why not as a 3rd or 4th choise. Or as a coach! Otherwise it has to be said that King can't anymore play at the level required from the team fighting for CL football and top 4 in the Prem. The spring showed it more than clearly and IMO he hasn't been the great King for ages anymore. And it's no wonder, because when was the last time he could train properly?!? He is and has been playing with a chronic injury for a long long time alredy. And you never know how many games/season he can play.

We need consistency to our defence and IMO King does not offer that, has not offered it for ages. He is a legend and a great player, but we need to move on. And believe me, my heart bleeds when I'm saying this!!!

Perryman and Mabbutt were 2 of our most loyal players in the clubs history. Like Ledley everyone assumed they would be kept on as part of the coaching team. But no.

Isn't Gary Mabbutt our club ambassador? I'm sure he does ok out of it. I think you are being a bit dramatic.

Gallas isn't past it. People seem to forget the first three quarters of the season and only remember the last few games where Gallas was rushed bad after injury and King was playing with knock. Fully fit they are still probably the best two centre backs at the club and a huge part in our progress over the last two seasons.

Gallas hasn't been that good for a while, always looks uncertain on the ball and signs towards the end of his moodiness bordering on petulance. Played OK at first especially when not called upon to do too much.
Ledley was a top class player and would be a superb support and inspiration for the next generation.
With these two barely making up a player between them
I think that if we hope to maintain and improve on our position
then we need some younger, fitter blood.

What progress over the last two seasons?
At a time when Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have floundered we still only just made fourth.

Fair enough, but coaches should be appointed on merit, not for sentimental reasons.

Sorry, but Kings time as a player is over. We need to move on and get a consistently fit pairing of central defenders, until that happens I think I will continue to be shaky at the back. This however, does not mean he hasn't got a role to play within the coaching staff especially to the youngsters.

How many coaches are we supposed to have if every legend is kept on?
Many questions needs to be asked. Did Perryman and Mabbutt want coaching jobs? Were they offered jobs?
Were they ready for it, had they done their badges and education for it?
Were they demanding top jobs, not willing to begin at the bottom (youth etc.) and work on their qualifications?

In modern days it's also a matter of players having high egos, not to mention gotten used to silly wages.
They want to remain on good wages, and they want to remain the stars they were as players.
Just look at Ginola who have talked about how he'd like to be our manager, that he couldn't be a number two or part of the coaching staff - when what he probably would do well is as a player developer.
Everyone thought Sheringham would go into management - but it's more fun to keep on partying and shag 19 year olds.

I'd love for King to remain with the club for the rest of his life in any capacity,
but it's up to him. He must want it, he must have something to offer.
We're not a retirement home.
Rather have a medicore player, who has something to offer as a coach and have passion for that part of football, take the step into our coaching staff. Than great player, just hanging around cause he doesn't have anything else to do with his life and would just like to stay involved with Spurs and remain on the pay roll.

King has not been fully fit since 2007/2008 or so. He has managed surprisingly well having not been able to train properly, but during the past 2 seasons this has clearly been seen in his game. And especially during this spring. As Harry said in the past, there's no cure for Ledley's knee. And he can't train enough. So he is not getting any better anymore. It is a sad thing and it is a big blow for us, but it's time to move on. I'm sure Ledley still has a lot to offer for Spurs, but not as a player. Sorry, but that's the reality. And it makes me sad.

Leds played far more game than expected this season, and for all the changes I did not think there was much wrong with our defence - our problems as converting possession into chances and chances into goals.

I did not notice any deterioration in King's performance prior to the spring, after which he was playing on with an injury unrelated to his knee and then got crocked after a reserve keeper clattered his bad knee. Once he has had an op to clear his knee out there is no reason why he should not again a mangae twenty plus game next season.

The real issue is whether we are better off with a regular centre back partnership, which means playing an inferior player every week, or starting King when he is fit and playing the inferior player every other week. We are better when King plays but it can affect the performance of the player who deputises for him to be dropped every other week, as it did with Bassong.

But we are not in the Champions League, which means we will not often have two big games in a week, and fortunately(!) Gallas and Dawson spend almost as much time on the treatment table as Leds, so as long as their injuries do not coincide with his it is not that big a problem; also Willy and Daws are big enough characters not to lose confidence easily.

Then again if Vertonghen and Kaboul can form a top class partnership, there is no harm in keeping Leds as Rolls Royce back-up.
