I don't get your point. Lennon would be shit at CM but Walker could do a decent job at RW.

NO, NO , NO!! Just because Walker can run fast does not mean he can play right wing. He possesses no other skill which mean he could play right wing.

No he is not a winger but he has a cracking shot, can skin a full back and his delivery isn't the worst - certainly not the last person you'd consider to fill in there surely? Hardly an example to rival Lennon playing CM but each to their own.

A lot of poor opinions of Walker around recently. I don't think he's done a lot wrong but hey ho.

One of the reason Lennon has scored few goals in the past has been our 4-4-2 formation, that has required him to work as a touchline-hugging winger the majority of the time. This has been important to stretch opposition defences, but it keeps him away from the penalty area, except when we counter-attack at pace from a defensive position.

In a 4-3-3 formation, with Lennon as the right-sided attacking player in a trio, he should spend more time in and about the penalty area and that should get him more goals. I think this is already visible this season: he cuts inside more often and spend less time right out on the line, waiting for the ball.

So there's an element of circular-logic, or perhaps I mean self-fulfilling prophecy, about these suggestions: he doesn't score enough goals, so he shouldn't play in a position where he might score more goals...? Hmm.

Don't think it's anything to do with the formation in itself.

I don't think Lennon has the forwards pedigree required to play as a wing forward in a 4-3-3, when he has been in the positions he's opted to pass the ball rather than shoot, Lazio being a prime example where he tried to pass it to Defoe where he should have shot and probably would have scored instead.

It will take him awhile to adjust. My view is that his reluctance to shoot is as much related to his historical role as a wide winger and provider of crosss as it is to any natural disinclination. If AVB tells him 'I want you to shoot more', then he will. He hasn't got a powerful shot (although we were all surprised to see him give it a good thump last weekend), but he gets the ball on target and into the corners a healthy percentage of the time, so I don't see why he can't score more goals as his manager develops his role.

i would actually like to see him play in a midfield 3, it would be interesting. He will have to adapt his game as he get older and loses his pace like Giggs has done.

I remember ages ago (against Watford) under Jol, Lennon played in the hole behind the striker. Jol said he could see a future for him playing centrally and creating chances for others.

Playing in the hole is nothing like playing central midfield.

Yeah i know, thats not the point i was trying to make.

I was just thinking about Lennon playing in another position, this was the only time i could remember it happening.

Its not your fault. Its mine.

I worded it poorly.

Saw the assist on the goal tonight. He did something I hadn't seen him do and I am willing to eat my words. He sure is better than last year and must be eating up whatever the staff is dishing out.

Not just Watford. he played in the hole for us in 4-5 games in one season under Jol. It was when Gahly came into his right wing slot for a while and we had steed on the left. Probably his best game in that position was that FA cup 3-3 game with Chelsea. In which he was the best player on the pitch for us.

Following Defoe's comments
Jermain Defoe paid tribute to Aaron Lennon after the pair combined again to secure victory against Panathinaikos on Thursday night.
“His workrate has been fantastic. He’s set-up a lot of my goals and sometimes I’m thinking ‘just shoot’, but he always looks for me. It’s great to play with someone like that. Thanks Azza!"

Got me thinking of the times lennon has passed when the obvious option looked to be to shoot, does lennon have a bigger assist bonus than a goal bonus?

Not a criticism of the little man.... i love him just a musing really.
