From SkySports:

BAILEY WANTS PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE

Leon Bailey
wants to move to the Premier League before the transfer window closes, and sources close to the player have told Sky Sports News that Tottenham are interested.

Spurs have watched the Bayer Leverkusen winger, although the asking price of just over £40m (45m Euros) will have to come down if they’re to follow up that interest.

Everton have also been linked with Bailey who has impressed since moving to Germany, scoring 7 goals in 33 appearances for Leverkusen last season.

The Jamaica international is a good friend of Raheem Sterling and is keen to move to England this month.

Unless there is a deal to do with Serge moving the other way (he was linked earlier in the window and I don't think they've bought another right back since the link - happy to be corrected) then not sure how we do a deal.

Where would he fit in the scheme of things?

It won't matter which wingers and forwards we sign unless we fix our midfield.

But great player, would be an immediate upgrade on Moura.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we sign him instead of a natural striker
I don't think that would be the worst idea, as he can play up front, but I'm not sure if this is something Jose would want. However, out of all the attackers we have or have been linked with, Bailey provides the most spark and this something extra. He will run at defenders and take them on 1v1, something we lack. We have no one that will square a full back up and take them on regularly. Bailey does this and often succeeds. He's a tad selfish and his numbers are slightly down because of Moussa diaby's emergence, but he's a real talent. If we have a chance, I really couldn't say no.

7 goals in 33 games - not what we need so no thanks.

Bale on loan for a year would be cheaper. However we need a striker otherwise we flog Kane to death against teams Parrot could have played gains or get knocked out of cups early

Never really watched him closely, anyone watched him quite a bit? If so how good is he?

I watched a bit of him a couple years ago when the Bundesliga highlight show was on ITV - he was very highly rated back then and looked wicked! Was like a very fast Arjen Robben... but I can only assume he's dropped off massively in the last couple of seasons or else Leverkusen wouldn't be open to selling.

He's very talented and confident, however especially in the second half of the season, he's been used off the bench because they have another winger who emerged. His attacking numbers aren't spectacular, but he is an exciting x-factor sort of player. Fast, can dribble, lethal left foot. One thing is he always seems to torment Bayern and dortmund which is a good thing. Good from free kicks as well.

He’s one on the “Bergwijn List” of talented players who, if they were made available at the right price, the club is keeping a very close eye on.

Even if we needed a winger, I wouldn’t be prioritizing Bailey. He had a massive breakthrough season in 2017/2018 at 21, but he hasn’t pushed on really.

He’s struggled a lot with inconsistent form and injuries the last two seasons. It’s sort of like when we were linked to Belotti the other day, it’s initially exciting because you remember the hype from a couple years ago but then you look and see that the form has fallen off.

Here’s what his manager and Leverkusen sporting director said recently (link):

Leon Bailey is a talent but that talent is not on display often enough.

That seems to be the view of Bayer Leverkusen boss Rudi Völler who believes the 23-year-old Jamaican is not consistent enough.

Two seasons ago, Bailey brought his exciting talents to the fore scoring 12 goals to go along with six assists in 32 appearances for Leverkusen. However, since then Bailey has struggled to hold a place in the starting XI and subsequently fell down the pecking order at the club.

The malaise has not gone unnoticed.

"You can see that he's blessed with quality, but he has lacked continuity. It's also clear that he has to do a bit more," said Völler, whose sentiments were echoed by Sporting Director Simon Rolfes.

"You get the feeling with him that he wants to force things. He doesn't seem to be playing with the same looseness, freedom and intuitive as in his first season," Rolfes said.

7 in 33 no thanks? He’s a winger and a rapid one at that, not a bloody striker
