Just caught up on that now. Lots of respect for his stance, but still a hard guy to take as an intellectual.

Take a drink every time he says "irrrmmm"

Its strange. As you say, he's be very hard to follow for a player because he doesn't articulate himself well and I can't imagine him explaining tactics or training sessions very well.

But maybe it's because who he is and maybe when things are more animated, he's inspiring.

Having said that Gerrard is as dull as dish water to listen to yet we all know that he can pump up the energy when needed. Whereas Lampard has a high IQ yet struggled to motivate at Cheslea.

Weird

Let’s be honest if Rooney was a bit easier on the eye and articulated better he’d have been a much bigger star. And it’s probably why nobody really expected much as a manager. Where as Gerrard Lampard immediately walked in to top jobs really because they just come across better. Very interesting to see how the managerial career works out, he may be a dark horse. The “irmmmm” thing is mad, it’s a scouse thing isn’t it ? I’m sure carra and Gerrard do it but not to same extent.

Rooney's the type that never looks like he's conveyed the emotion of excited, as is Gerrard. Those types seem to slow down the dialogue with the "errmmm" mannerisms as pauses, whereas the gobby ones like Carragher will just skip pronouncing words properly just to get as many out as possible.

The thing is, he isn't the guy doing the tactics, he is the face of a group of four coaches

Went to the match today, personally I think if we dont get a Lamptey or KWP. Then we have to absolutely go for Festy Ebosele

Absolute perfect for Conte's system, can drive the ball forward and will keep the fullback humble. Derby had the clear instruction to hit the right wing when time on the ball.

That's pretty standard for managers. It's his job to get results and considering all the problems they're having including losing players like Jagielka in January it has to be said that Rooney is doing a great job.

People think I’m being harsh but Ive been watching derby for ten years, I was at the game yesterday. Losing jagielka was hard but this squad bar 4 players was a playoff team 2 seasons ago . the youngsters coco brought through have 3 years experience and this is despite being 21/20

if coco wasn’t manager derby would be screwed right now as this is their youth team playing

honestly rooney done a good job this season but he did a terrible one last season. Cooper at forest won’t get the plaudits but has done an insane job at forest. Forest were below derby after 7 games

Just watching new documentary on sky it’s very good. Really seeing him in a completely different light lately. Amazing how dull he came across for his career when he really is quite interesting.

Huge win yesterday. 92 mins vs Peterborough, who they now go above (having played a game more). 3rd bottom now. 5pt gap to safety.

Currently leading at Blackburn.

If they win, they'll be 2 points off a place outside the relegation zone (albeit with 2 games more played) I think

Didn't they get docked points because they broke the financial rules? Why is the media (and neutral fans) so invested in them surviving?

They did the same that numerous other clubs have done. They spent money they didn't have hoping to get promoted. They didn't, and they have been punished.

I think they get the support as they have been docked a lot of points and are putting up a good fight to stay up.

Villa also massively overspent. But they got away with it as they got promotion.

So, yes they did this but they also didn't

They spent more than they had but covered themselves to FFP by selling themselves their own stadium to their owner. He in turn used a mortgage to buy the stadium.

Mel Morris brought the club debt-free, worth noting after a great job from previous owners and Steve McLaren in making them competitive. The club had spent a lot of money but it got all this money from an interest free loan from the owner Mel Morris, like Chelsea have. So club wasn't in debt parent company was.

The club wasn't breaking even pre-covid due to a high wage bill which Cocu was forced to reduce by releasing 11 players. The club then pursued a financial battle with EFL and Keough lost both cases.

The club then struggled during Covid and effectively mortgaged their only asset(not including players), they took a loan out on the training ground as well as using the stadium as collateral, which wasn't owned by the club as stated above.

They got docked 9 points because they effectively cooked the books. They didn't amortise the player to 0, like the rest of the world and instead to the value they think the player would be worth at the end of their contract. This is dumb for two reasons, players values can increase to more than what's paid, but the reason why you do 0, is in case the player doesn't sign an extension, he is free to leave.

Then with Covid hitting every club hard, derby debts from loan, sale of stadium and etc. mounted up and Mel Morris could no longer afford to keep subsidising. So they went in to Amortisation. The club was struggling to break even before covid, then struggled to meet their debts post covid!

They owe
25m to the taxman
10m to other clubs (transfer fees that were due after the signings, most of this is arsenal)
15m to miscellaneous iirc

Oh Yea and they owe Mel Morris £140m but whether he calls that in is tbd

So the club is for sale but, they don't really have any assets other than the brand and players

Rooney and everyone loves a story

Truth is Derby is where they should be imo but people have it as an underdog story

Thanks for the explanation Beats, I will continue to be largely indifferent about their survival. Actually fuck it, I hope they end up in the conference.

The latest in the saga is that the preferred bidder has now withdrawn his offer.
Seriously feels like the odds on them having their license revoked and going out of business are shorter than on them finding a new buyer and getting out of this mess.
