Hold on, you mean Chelsea will actually be alright and continue being successful?

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.
The same club that were utter wank for a whole season and yet managed to win the champions League in the favourites own backyard whilst preventing their rivals playing Champions League football...

That was the day I gave up giving a shit about Chelsea Football Club.

FFS. £4 billion bid. Chums with the government too isn't he. Wonder if they persuaded him to bid?

So a deadline was set for bids to be submitted. But we don't like those bids so we'll wait till our chum has their finances sorted. No change there then.

?‍♂️ Bidders led up the garden path?

A consortium led by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly is set to be named the preferred bidder for Chelsea, BBC Sport understands.

The club was put the club up for sale before owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned for his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier on Friday, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe made a $4.25bn offer.

The late offer is understood to have prompted confusion among rival bidders.

I don't understand~ there was a deadline~ it passed
All the media happy about a new bidder after said deadline passed
This stinks of dodgy dealings
Corruption of the highest order
The bastards will land on their feet

You can’t stop someone bidding for them. It’s whether they will be taken into consideration or not. I still think this has a while to play out despite todays announcements.

Sky are saying Ratcliff bid is to late. And £1.75b on players stadium and infrastructure isn’t that much over 10 years. We’ve probably spent over £2.5b

Of course the government and the PL will help Chelsea out.

Chelsea are a big draw and most of their fans are global. The PL wants as many big clubs as possible so that it continues being the most watched league and money making brand.

They won't see them fade away.

It's completely unsportive and corrupt but sadly this is the reality.

So what was the point of a deadline?
Not getting at you 77
Think of it like a deadline for an essay or any kind of application. In theory you can still submit the paper after the deadline but there’s no guarantee anyone will look at it. I suspect that the media courting is a means of trying to ensure the bid isn’t ignored.

Sorry if this has been discussed to death already, but if Boehly does win what's the likely outcome?

Is he one of those American investors that actually gives a shit and will invest in the team or is he more of a Kroenke type?

Boehly winning is the worst possible outcome

Revived the LA Dodgers and he's very astute

Crazy that Chelsea won't suffer any consequences for being subsidized for twenty years with stolen money

Sends the message that sportswashing works - the government is too scared to act against a club, so it becomes a shield for nation states like UAE and Saudi who know they can exert influence, and be shielded from consequences. They won't care about writing off a couple of billion if they can use the club - and by extension the fans who support them - as leverage

A message should have been sent, to encourage fans to reject certain owners. This has done the opposite

These are the main backers. Private equity.
