I think it is a poor value signing, really not that great a player...Although...they are at least trying to improve their squad...I hope we do the same...

Strengthens them without any shadow of a doubt, good defender & their support won’t give a fuck what he cost, the only stumbling block I see is the fee could weigh heavy on his shoulders. Also makes me laugh that Eric Dier cost us £2.5 million less than the fee Celtic get for this transfer, £7.5 mil

They are a real force this season...lest we forget the are above us in the table.

I think calling them a force is a little bit of a stretch. I mean they're above us by 1 point and we've been fairly average this season all things considered so... not really a force.

On topic, VVD improves them, no doubt. He's better than what they have. He does not however even come close to fixing their problems. He is not a leader (at least not what I've seen of him). They need leaders in that back line and a whole change of their defensive set up. Not to mention they needed a better GK more.

So it strengthens them but not that much more I'd guess. We'll see though, who knows? Sadly it could be that just the idea of them signing such a player gives them a confidence boost.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't recall anyone being particularly overwrought about VvD until Liverpool tapped him up? Not in the way I recall Lovren getting praised? Is he really that good? I don't see it, so am astonished at £75m..........but then I though Rio was overpriced when Utd bought him too.

It seems to me that a lot of their issues derive from their coaching just as much as their playing staff. When I watch them I wonder whether their attacking half are coached separately from their defensive unit, as they seem like there's no cohesion between them.

They need a Wanyama as well. I don’t know this Keita guy they’re getting in the summer but my understanding is that he’s more of a box to box than an out and out DMF destroyer.

You’re right, though, it strengthens them but I’m not really bothered about it, tbh. Some scousers might think this means they’ll be competing with City but in reality they aren’t even as good as us, in my very biased opinion.

How many years has this been said.

With the players we have to return, getting out of Wembley and a settled squad with another years experience under their belts we will be a force next season.

If Kane keeps it up, God knows what we'll achieve.

With all these comparisons to Ferdinand flying around (for the first time ever!), I hope VVD fails to attend a drug test soon.

It's funny, but I see Liverpool in a similar fashion to how they regard us - a good team, sometimes great, but will achieve little as all the trophies are already tied up by the billionaire three before the seasons even started.......just that we do it at a profit.

You make a mistake at Southampton and it doesn't get noticed in the scheme of bigger things.

You do it at Liv and the press are onto you.

Don't tell them Mickeys what they need ffs. They might go out and buy more.
