I'm sure it's been posted in here before but the videos on YouTube titled "if a Liverpool fan was a commentator" are absolutely class.

It's right in what it says. The Mickeys did boo Evra at every opportunity - you could say it was the whole United thing, and Little Pea got some boos too. But it was accompanied by repeated singing of the repetitive Luis Suarez chant. Makes it seem much worse.

But what it didn't say, and I know I heard this, maybe anyone else who saw the game can confirm it, was one group, not particularly large, it seemed, but vocal enough to be heard, were singing: "One lying bastard, there's only one lying bastard". I took that also to be aimed at Evra. Which is strange because Suarez's defence was that his use of the word *negro* was taken totally out of intended meaning and not that he didn't say it. I haven't seen or heard any reports at all of this. Typical of Victim FC - neither the club or anyone associated with it ever do anything wrong. We will never hear the end of the cheating involved in two legitimate penalties awarded against them at Anfield. Likewise, Evra must have been lying if Suarez said anything abusive about him - even if the player himself admits he said it, just didn't mean it in the way taken. Okay.

*As I said at the time, it is true that the terms, and the people that use them are more deeply nuanced and contextualized than would fit into Western Eurpean/North American culture. But if a player in a sporting competition jumps around in front of an opponent saying "negro, negro, negro" repeatedly, he is quite clearly drawing attention to his opponents race and there can be no other interpretation that I can think of than that it is meant as a slight. Even with awareness of historical and cultural context I really can't see any reason for him doing it other than as a slur.

Hate to say but their team is coming together. Karius looking better.Robertson looks decent. Clyne coming back at RB. OX looking better. Keita coming. They are probably CB DM away from having a very solid 1st xi. Still need some squad depth though. Might not be able to laugh at the team much longer but supporters will always be unbearable twats.

Its what I've been saying for a while in this thread. Our points differential over this lot will not be as wide as in previous seasons. Our saving grace is the new stadium and we should be able to compete in the transfer market going foward. They making shrewd long term signings though.

We just need Real Madrid to come in with £150 million pounds offer to unsettle Mo Salah... Oh the agony would be bliss, it would be like an extended orgasm.

They are sadly as good as us if they maintain their current form IMO. They will finish third if their defence continues to play as the improved version it has over recent games. I looked at their run in and found it hard to predict many losses, especially with their attack on fire. Fourth is between us and the Chelsea Racists I reckon.

He then submits a transfer request and refuses to play.

That would be bliss.

If we dont get 2nd then i think we will be 3rd. Genuinely believe it. Liverpool aren't going to stop scoring thats for sure. They usually run out of steam about now but that seems to be changing.

Oh lord we starting to sound like them.. When Kane leaves they go back to being ordinary.

I'd be amazed if there weren't offers for Salah at the end of the season. Except the dippers will hold off all offers for next season on him.

I don't want to get into it too much as I'm sure it's been discussed 1000 times already back when it happened, but just have to correct you he wasn't saying "Negro" he was calling Evra "Negrito", which in South America is, generally speaking, a friendly term/nickname. Now given that he had at the time lived in England/Europe for many years, he should've known better how that sort of thing would come across, and in fact probably did know and was intentionally using it to wind Evra up. Who knows. But the word itself does not translate to the "N-Word" like most people make out. There isn't really an equivalent in English because ANY reference to a person's race is considered racist so there isn't any way to translate it properly really.

Good piece on Vice today:

Patrice Evra, Idiot Finder General
You think this would go without saying, but: attempting to provoke a footballer who was racially abused by chanting the name of his antagonist is an atrocious reflection on the people doing the chanting. That was what happened at Anfield this Saturday, when West Ham debutant and former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra was greeted with boos, choruses of Luis Suarez’s name and refrains of "One lying bastard" at various points in the match. In case anyone needs a quick refresher, Suarez was found guilty of using insulting words towards Evra which included reference to race in 2011, resulting in the then-Liverpool striker being fined £40,000 and banned for eight games.

It says a lot about the myopia of uncritical fandom that there are still people who feel Evra was the bad guy in the situation. While most of us – and doubtless most of those inside Anfield – can differentiate between the panto of football rivalries and the seriousness of the Suarez-Evra affair, there are those to whom an investigated and evidenced incident of racism is secondary in importance to club tribalism.

Luis Suarez – a man who cares about Liverpool so much that he spent his last couple of years there agitating for a transfer and eventually pissed off to Barcelona for £65 million – is somehow the hero of our tale, Patrice Evra the villain, because he’s associated with Man United. That makes Evra fair game for castigation from fans who, despite having never been to Suarez’s home country of Uruguay, supposedly have a forensic knowledge of the cultural significance of racial epithets there and can assure you that they aren’t offensive. At least, it does if you’re an idiot willing to defend anything and everything relating to your club no matter how much squirming equivocation it takes.

I heard it and it sounded as loud as the Louis Suarez chants to me, almost the whole ground singing it.

You're right but Suarez knew full well what he was doing imo, they're not friends, they were playing in a heated derby...Suarez thought he was being clever as he had this 'friendly' get out, but it didnt work, and nor should it.

They have United, Everton and Chelsea to play away in their remaining fixtures. I don't expect Liverpool to go away and just roll those teams over. We have City [Home] and Chelsea [Away].

Cant think of many injuries to key players they have had this season, Lalann a?We have had Dembz, Wanyama, Toby, Rose and Lamela missing coupled with a tougher European campaign.

I still believe the difference between us and them and how far the gap between us is, is in defence. They have conceded 32 vs our 24 and I think this year we have been poor defensively we only conceded 26 goals all season last year. They are still conceding 1.14 goals per game so they will likely concede more than 40 goals. And as you mentioned squad depth. Despite extensive injuries to key defensive players we are only 2 points behind and 8 goals better defensively.

Burnley have only conceded 25 goals this season to Liverpools 32, Utd and City have 20 each.
