I can imagine there is a fair bit of crap that needs cleaning out like in our squad.

Mignolet, Karius, Klavan, Grujic, Markovic, Ings, Sturridge and possibly Origi. They could probably make back a few quid from selling that lot.
They will have to keep one of Mignolet/Karius - and the other isn't worth much right now. Combined, they might get €60M, and compromise their depth a bit in the process.

The key will be to see if they are still targeting Fekir - if that is the case, Salah is almost certainly off...

Klopp, after Man Utd spent £89m on Pog: “Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money”

Klopp’s spending in 2018: Van Dijk £75M Keita £55M Fabinho £42M Alisson £70M.

It matters not a jot to me what Liverpool spend or don't spend on players - it's just the downright hypocrisy that gets on my t*its.

They seem to suddenly be heading for a Man City type net spend with nothing to underpin it and a new stadium somewhere in the pipeline. This is either a BIG roll of the dice or their board have gone Klopp crazy.
Or backing their manager in case the German national team need a new manager soon.

Our strategy has seen us finish above them consistently for the last 9 years.
9 years is a long time in football fans, players, media whoever for the most part live in the now, so we can't keep clinging to the belief that because we did it before we can still do it.
Personally I think we will still be amongst it again come the end of the season but will we win the league no or win a cup maybe but again probably no which leaves top four again which is likely.

They'd already spent the Coutinho money and have now spent £180+m this summer, not including their already high wage bill and, presumably, some serious agent fees. It's certainly eye-catching.

We could sell half of our first team to Liverpool and there would still be people on here claiming they're nothing to worry about and that we'd still finish above them comfortably.

The usual "we've finished above them for the past 8 out of 9 seasons". Well that definitely means we'll finish above them again no matter what doesn't it?

You are, of course, right. Past performance is no guarantee of future results and all that.

However, for every poster prepared to proclaim Spurs' eternal superiority over the Scousers on the basis of 8 of the last 9 seasons, there's another ready to pick up his placard and bemoan that the end is nigh every time Liverpool look to have done something mildly impressive. For instance, here we have...

The reaction to the signing of Balotelli in 2014

Epic signing. Liverpool will finish above us again.

A pithy summary of the reaction to Liverpool's signings in 2015 (which included a complaint as to why we'd gone for Trippier and not Clyne)

Might have to change the thread to lets all be jealous of Liverpool!!

The reaction to their late season form in 2016

Us finishing above them 5/6/7/8 years ago is completely irrelevant to how good a team they are now. They're one good transfer window away from being right up there.

And the reaction during the 2017 Transfer Window

They're a threat to us this year. We're crying out for some of their AM options

So, by all means, let's be realistic about the odds of Spurs finishing above Liverpool this season, but let's not fucking wet the bed because they've bought a couple of decent players. People on here have been doing that for the last 4 years and all they've got to show for it is a red face and soggy sheets.

But surely with Liverpool constantly finishing below us and winning fuck all shows that it doesnt guarantee anything despite showing ambition each transfer window? Liverpool have far higher revenue numbers than we do, therefore can spend more. It's about being smart with your money, not just the highest amount spent wins.
I think you're absolutely right to say that being smart with money is extremely important. My concern is that we don't seem to be certain of who it is we want to get. We alternate between targets a lot and this creates indecision and makes us miss out on our ideal targets.

Just looked at Liverpool's transfers since last summer:

17/18 (includes Coutinho sale, but not Keita buy): Total incoming: €168M; Total outgoing: €175M; Net Spend: €(7M)

18/19 (assuming Alisson at €75) Total incoming: €200M; Total outgoing: €0; Net Spend €200M

That just looks like a major sale still waiting to happen - even if you assume Liverpool can afford €50M/season in net spend.

I’d say right now they could just about make the net realistic to say £120m that’s if they sell all their dead wood Sturridge origi etc. But even then FSG have never net spent more than £50m so it definitely looks fishy. If fekir comes then they are definitely selling someone big likely mane there’s no way they are spending £250m net. The funny thing is they still only have one decent CB x3 AM as opposed to our 5 and no back up striker. Still think they are miles of getting anywhere near city. Salah has a freak season and they still only got 4th. He might get 15-20 but not chance getting over 30. Imo they over spent on FIFA type players that really haven’t proved themselves at the highest level. Honestly if we were spending like this out of nowhere I’d be very nervous kane or Eriksen we’re off. After all this if they sell Salah would literally be the funniest thing in the history of football.

Can't believe markovic is still with them, signed a 5 year contract, played for them in the first year and spent the following 3 years out on loan, probably the same this season too.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this. Sure we've missed out on 1st choice targets in the past but this will have been down to not being able to agree with the club or player, not by us twiddling are thumbs still trying to figure out if we should buy this person or not.

Boo hoo......Liverpool might sign Alisson. Waahh...Liverpool will be great now they're supposedly signing Alisson.

We've only got a World cup winning captain for our goalkeeper at Spurs. :spitoutdummy:

It’s more the fact that they’re filling gaping holes in their squad.

Whilst we’re still without a creative CM and a viable back up option to Kane.

We’re still selling Poch short by also getting all of our signings in during the last couple of weeks in the window.

We just don’t help ourselves.

Liverpool are being brave...

Lets face it, they are doing what we wished Levy would do - they see a small window of opportunity to win something, and they have massively invested to try and get over the line. Time will tell if they are successful, but it won't be for a lack of trying.

Watch all their signing flop apart from Shaqiri.

Not sure they will all flop but they are definitely due some lemons. You might call it good scouting but believe there’s an element of luck as well. Salah firmino mane Robertson Ox have all over achieved. Personally think Keita will be the one to flop, just don’t think they would have bought him based on 17/18 form.

Wow Ox out for all 18/19. Which basically means they’ve just replaced Can with Fabinho, Ox with Keita and added alisson and shaqiri.

I think they may have got a bit over excited after their piss easy run to the CL Final.

Sounds worse that that for AOC. Klopp saying he might not play competitively again according to one journo on twitter. Edit. That’s wrong, he means this season.

Talking over twitter I’ve decided to mute any words to do with Liverpool from my timeline. Their constant mentions on there is crazy. Literally nobody laughing about them!

If Liverpool start badly then klopp could lose his job I reckon. Massive pressure after spending so much money.

Liverpool have a better squad than us. They will have a better team if Toby and Dembele leave as expected.

We're falling behind. No idea what Levy's game is.
