Wind yer neck in. He didn't spit in a girl's face. He spat at a car. Using a mobile whilst driving is also an actual offence that has caused deaths. No one ever died from being spat at. No cars ever dissolved or suffered serious harm from saliva.

he spat in a girls face.

Isn't that a bit different though? Keys and gray had been at it for years and probably been warned about it before. Plus their actions were not necessarily in the public eye.
Carragher got his action literally right in the public eye.
Nice to see that even after retiring from football he still had one more own goal left in him :ROFLMAO:

Spitting isn't disgusting, people do it all the time as it's a natural reaction to a build-up of fluid in the mouth. Spitting at people is disgusting. However, Carragher was spitting at a car. It was an emotional response, on the back of bitter disappointment, to being trolled whilst driving. I severely doubt he'd have reacted the same to someone in the street calling out: "Hey, Jamie...unlucky lad, 2-1."

A father endangering his 14 year old daughter by using a mobile whilst driving, to taunt a sports analyst? No forgiveness for that, as many deaths have been caused by same. Lock him up.

Carragher was not spitting at the car. He was spitting at the people in the car and he could see full well the window was open. The driver's use of a phone (assuming it is the driver holding is) is absolutely wrong, but it is also irrelevant. It doesn't mitigate Carragher's actions.

Spitting at people or in public IS disgusting. It shows disrespect both for the targetted people and for public space. It is also unhygienic. This man is public figure who is watched by many, including young adults and children. He should set an example and for the life of me I cannot understand what there is to defend him over...and God knows that as a professional footballer and TV personality he has had more than enough banter and abuse over years to not succumb to it. Hell, even if he had to, was a swear word or two not good enough? He had to be unhygienic and filthy and spit instead? I wouldn't dream of spitting at someone even if I was angry. It's low life behaviour.

I think the public shaming will be punishment enough. I have no problem with a suspension and reinstatement at Sky. Was disgusting and cowardly. He would have had far more provocation on the football field with oppo players winding him up re the scoreline if his team were losing, but he was aware of the consequences in that situation. He "lost it", because he thought he could get away with it.

Even if he keeps his job it's going to tarnish his reputation and remove the weight of his opinions.

Look at how Neville can't criticise a manager's decisions without someone making a Valencia dig. Yet Neville is still perfectly placed as an analyst with his distinguished playing career to critique.

It's going to be harder for Carragher because spitting is a stain on his character. Neville just lost some football matches.

I like Carragher's punditry because he was forthright and detailed but imagine if he calls a player a disgrace, a team lacking bottle or those sort of brutal assessments. Up until now it was fine. It was honest and within the context of football analysis we as fans enjoy it. But he won't be able to do it again now without his behaviour being brought up. His credibility has severely diminished.

But would gilette and the other sky sponsors share your view? Or would they prefer if he is replaced?

This isn't a normal job there is a lot at stake and he has become an embarassment.

Maybe not, but that's their corporate view, and I'm sure they'll be polling public opinion. I was just giving my own view.

He won't be sacked unless sky viewers start on mass to threaten cancelling their subscription, which i doubt will happen.
That's obvious or he wouldn't have been allowed anywhere near sky yesterday trying to save his job.

But i cannot see how he can possible be a credible pundit anymore, he will hold back so much all that will be left is his whiney voice and him sitting on the fence when conduct is an issue.

I know what you mean but it'll happen, football fans are a fickle bunch and will soon stop caring. He'll be slowly eased back in and after a while it'll be business as usual. Given time, the only people that will really be bothered are those who have a Liverpool axe to grind, which means this thread has a LOT of mileage left in it :D

Personally I think he's a silly boy, he did wrong, he'll take his licks and move on.

SC on the other hand...... :playful:

Exactly, the same could be said on Neville who openly criticises managers on a weekly basis, after clearly showing he can't manage for toffee.

Carragher cant possibly be a pundit when a young girl winds him up because Lollypool lost. Can he?

Aren’t pundits meant to be objective?

Brings into question Sky’s judgement in hiring a Liverpool ‘fan’ to review other teams performances.

I think it was her dad that did the winding up. As for Sky's judgement, what are they supposed to do? Whoever they appoint supports someone*.........:D

I've had about 20 photos sent to me on my phone about this, I wish I knew how to put them on here**:D

*But yeah, too many Liverpool faces on football punditry for me (inc BT)

**Actually, nah, I don't :shifty:

Quite happy about the bolded point, regardless of the circumstances. There's always been a high volume of scousers in the commentary world.

Why is there so little rotation anyway? It seems like a boys club to me, even the poor ones keep their jobs way beyond their shelf life (maybe some bias here but Henry for me is a poor pundit but is on TV regularly).

Like a most things in this world a bit of fresh blood is needed now and then to keep things interesting and to see who steps up to a good level comparatively.
