Sorry mate but that’s being very naive. Personally being Jewish if he’d have generalised about jewishplayers I’d being fuming. You have realise there’s a massive difference between saying Russian players and saying African players. Considering half their squad is black the dressing room fall out could be huge. Honestly if I was at a football club and someone at boardroom level said they didn’t want anymore Jewish players I’d hand in a transfer request the next morning.

I fully expect all African players in the dressing room to be fuming and want to leave. It was a stupid thing to say. I just think the Daily Mail classifying it as racist is wrong.

I think the key line is....

I think when anyone starts any sentence with the words, "I'm not being racist...but...." you know they are about to say something discriminatory.

I doubt the guy is a racist. But he's clearly an idiot to say something like that to a national newspaper.

Right. Incredibly stupid, but not racist. That's what I was getting at in my post.

Well by suggesting that all African players have a bad attitude and would act the same way if they're not in the team, he is making a racist remark.

Now there's a big difference between being inherently racist and saying something racist off-hand (as with most forms of discrimination), and I don't know enough about the guy to be able to say whether he is a full on hood wearing racist scumbag, but I can see why people would suggest that the comment was racist.

Of course the Daily Mail getting up in arms about it is, quite frankly, a bit like Hitler saying that Tottenham fans are racist.

TBH, I suspect @taidgh is using different definitions to you.

I think his meaning is that anyone born and bought up on the continent of Africa is African - including the Boers and descendants of other European settlers. And that is why the slur is about contries/cultures and not about race. Whereas, by his definition, black can apply to Americans, West Indians, Engligh/Scots/Welsh/Irish, Germans, rench, Belgians, et al - who can only be classified as African in the looser, hyphenated sense, i.e African-American, African-English, African-Brazilian, etc. So, saying African is not inclusive of all people who are black, nor exclusive of some people who are white.

Perhaps taidgh could clarify if I am right.

Cliques form at clubs, it's only natural. I know for a fact that this was an issue at WHU during Bilic's time. The dressing room was a complete mess during the last weeks of his tenure. It's a shame that this fella has come out and said it the way he has.

When i read the story i thought, i know what he's trying to say here, as i had the exact same conversation with someone I know close to the club. This fella was also a money lender to the players, as we know they never carry cash, and he showed me a list of what each player owed him. You wouldn't believe some of the figures on there and the work he had to go through to get the money back.

Anyways, back to laughing at west ham. I read on KUMB today that they want to protest, there were 2 suggestions, a twitter protest at 6pm tonight, or copy Hulls protest and throw tennis balls on the pitch. Unfortunately, as someone said, you'd need an awfully long throw just to get to the apron of their pitch !!

The Guardian has this strap line about West Ham ...

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-tony-henry-racism-claim-sign-african-players

In there it mentions that Lady Brady has also caused a bit of grief ....

According to a source, attempts to sign Slimani were hindered because Brady, the club’s vice-chairman, offended Leicester’s owners with comments about the club’s chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, in her weekly column for the Sun last year.

“A fellow Premier League director reports that last night he bumped into the Leicester chairman at London’s most-expensive wine shop,” Brady wrote. “The Leicester owner told him they’d sacked Claudio Ranieri.

“He then casually settled his bill for wine and champagne. Since the sum was close to £500,000 I guess the compensation to his old manager is pocket change. At least the owner can drown his sorrows in style!”

The source suggested Brady’s comments ended up becoming a PR own goal when Leicester refused to consider West Ham’s interest in Slimani, paving the way for Newcastle United to sign the Algerian forward on loan. It is claimed that despite repeated apologies from West Ham, attempts to make peace with Leicester fell on deaf ears.

It is understood that Brady apologised to Leicester some time ago and thought the matter was considered by both parties to be closed.

We had posters questioning the logic of signing Moura given our limited success with previous Brazilian signings
I think clubs will form opinions on players from different countries due to experiences in a positive or negative way. I doubt we’d have been falling over ourselves to sign another Russian after rebrov and their generally poor reputation for adapting. It’s just like having a bad experience or good experience with a GF. I’ve been out with quite a few black girls and in my experience they are just different to whites girls in their mentality. For me they are more fierce and fiesty and personally I like that and find myself drawn to black girls. But I haven’t meet every black girl in the world so can’t make a sweeping statement that I would be attracted to every black girl. People are individuals and everyone is different. In my experience in life certain nationalities or races do have common behavioural patterns. And it’s fair enough to not be as keen on certain nationalities as others. When it comes to all sorts of things like food or music. Just because I don’t like Rap music doesn’t make me a racist. But what you can’t do is judge every ethnic group so sweepingly. And especially make that view about African players public which will obviously cause outrage. It’s just idiotic and beggars belief.

I doubt the Spurs hierarchy would make a sweeping generalisation about Russians after seeing Rebrov play.

Not least because he's Ukrainian.

I agree with what you’re saying but Africans aren’t just one ethnic group, afaik he didn’t single out any particular colour of skin, unless I’m missing something

I think it's fairly obvious what he meant by "African" to be honest. Let's not kid ourselves.
