Why does it bother you so much if someone is in the park praying? Does it also bother you when people are sat in the park reading a book because they should be in a library if they want to read? How about people doing yoga or aerobics? There's a gym so they should all be in there right? Or is it just Muslims you hate?

Like I say I just don't see why anyone cares when it has zero affect on them in any way.

Dude, this is ridiculous. He's literally just said that he doesn't want to see any religious stuff outside three stadium and named three different religions.

But I was asking him if he'd still be outraged if it wasn't a muslim guy, and I suspect it wouldn't have even made it onto twitter if it wasn't a Muslim guy.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't understand why people get wound up by this sort of thing. It's not even like they're in West Ham's stadium because a) West Ham don't own a stadium and b) the thing is outside in the Queen Elisabeth Park, i.e. a public park, which has nothing to do with West Ham, they just rent a stadium that's in it.

But would you be okay with me practicing my love of recreational drugs in public? Some things should be in clubs or your home only.

Because I get the impression if it was some white bloke called Matthew reading the bible then 99% of the people who are "outraged" by this wouldn't have even batted an eyelid or even noticed it.

Reading Matthew using a mic & speaker ; that'd piss me off too. I can't remember who said but the quote goes a bit like this...

Religion is like a penis, it's okay to have one but don't wave it about in public

In all honesty I couldn't care what people do as long as it doesn't affect me, so if you want to sit in the park smoking a joint then so be it. If you want to drop acid and then come over to me and start feeling my face because you're tripping balls and think I'm some sort of unicorn then that I might take issue with :D

I didn't accuse you of anything, I asked you a question. Like I said, you're not bothered by any other kinds of activities in parks that there are other facilities for so why are you so outraged at the idea that some people are doing this activity in the park? My experience of this kind of "outrage" is that 99% of people who are so infuriated by it only really care because it's a Muslim guy doing it, so I was asking if you are one of them. If not, then that's fine, but you still haven't answered my original question about why it bothers you so much but other things don't bother you in the slightest.

My answer was posted several posts back, when I said that religion should be practiced in the religions respective places of worship, isnt that what they are there for? or of course or in the privacy of their own homes….

See that I agree with, but non of the complaints have been about it being too noisy and IMO it's naive to think that's the reason people are getting wound up by it.

No, you were specifically asking if he hated Muslims which was a pretty massive leap.

Was it even a religious thing? I just thought it was a bloke singing in another language. I thought he sounded alright.

Don't want to completely derail the thread as it's definitely a discussion for another thread, but like I say I just don't get this argument. People do all kinds of things in the park that there are other facilities for, presumably because they decide the weather is nice so it'll be more enjoyable to do it outside in the sunshine. Not sure what the issue is for other people. If it's the fact that it's noisy then fair enoguh, but as I said above, I find it hard to believe all this outrage is anything to do with it being noisy.

Then I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I'm wound up more by the comments on Twitter than anything in this thread but obviously shouldn't use that as an excuse to jump down people's throats. My apologies. I still don't really understand why it's such an issue but that's just something we'll have to agree to disagree on for the sake of the thread

The comments on Twitter are ridiculous. I did like the part where the guy with the Palestinian Flag corrected the spelling of the guy who thought it was apaulling.

Apparently they later found common ground when the guy from East London found out that the Palestinian supported the 'Hamas' just like what he did.

Did you know its illegal to worship in a royal park. So if its a royal park technically its against the law. A group were removed from Hyde park earlier this year.

I’m with Valencia on this. I don’t want religion being preached loudly in public places for various reasons. Firstly, I don’t want the peace disturbed by some twit with a fucking megaphone shouting anything. Secondly, I don’t want to be forced to have to listen to religious preaching, of any persuasion. I’d also be concerned that parks and public places would just become religious shout offs and eventually battle grounds. Then there's where do we draw the line with what they can preach? And is it right that young kids should be possibly eposed to it etc? And all these issues have many sub issues.

I have no problem with a person, or a handful of people quietly praying or discussing religion etc, wherever they want, but I don't want public spaces turned into religious places.

Read the cool to be atheist thread. The dislike of religion isn't limited to just islam.
There are also good reasons that people dislike religion.
