This is the key thing that we'll need to clear up, and it will shift my turmoiled perspective depending on it's outcome.

And that's a Power to Buy clause [s'what I'm calling it :p] in our favour, i.e. if we think he's had a good year and we cough up £[x] he's ours no matter what. Manchester United get no say in it etc.

I'm hoping for a squeaky-bum Chairman Statement on it all.

where did you hear this?

I find it hard to believe we can force a transfer with Utd if they want him back.

even if we did, he would just haveto whistle and his boy will be back at old trafford surely? We cant make the player sign for us even if we could make Utd sell.

I dont see who can benefit out of this other than Utd.

So Man U showed Levy how to get your asking price for a player that is widely known to want to leave to the team that wants to buy him?

Nice one Man U. Cheers!

Point being. Man Utd/Fergie knew what they wanted out of the transfer window and they got it.

They had a plan and a definitive set in stone outcome. Come the end of the transfer window get Berbatov to improve their front line. if they could get him cheap they would, if they had to pay big money they would. but he WOULD be a Utd player.

Compare with our own chasing of tails with regards to signing a forward.

hence Levy taught a lesson on how it should be done. Arshavin would have been in a Utd shirt this morning had Utd wanted Arshavin.

Know that for a fact, do you? Since you're so keen on challenging everyone else's assertions?

But when all is said and done, if you know of any trillionaires that would be interested in taking over Tottenham, so that your "model" can be put into operation, you will have the undying gratitude of both ENIC and every Tottenham supporter.

Know any?

Hi AG - no I don't - what I'm talking about is the concept

there has been a massive debate going on about the 'soul of the club' ever since Chelsea won the lottery - and there was a suspicion it 'could have been us' -

however many/most fans have insisted they don't want to buy success - but I think more are coming round to the minority view that I have shared with quite a few others that we wat to 'buy success'

that's the debate I'm interested in

the practicalities are something else

However I think it's clear that if we are up for becoming a 'rich man's/consortium's' plaything - probably someone can be found

that way forward is as you say fraught with potential pitfalls

but that is a different philosophical level to the basic choice

win the CFC way or don't win much but keep it 'real' by' paying your way' as we have done done under Sugar and Levy

One key problem is that we're not Manchester United. We can't throw our weight around in quite the same way.

Obviously I'm disappointed that Berbatov has left, but I believe that we have done about as well out of the deal as we possibly could have done.

If money were no object for a 28 year old ala chelsea for example we would have signed Arshavin.

Out of interest, what do you do for a living Charlatan?

Why is it embaressing we have Cambell on loan? I think it's ideal, we needed a third striker, he is a great talent, we don't have to pay over the odds in transfer fees and this way we can see how he plays for the season and then make a bid if we want to keep him. I think its great business and for the team we have three strikers that we needed.

Berbatov was always heading out, Keane went to his boyhood club and Defoe was sold because he didn't get enough games. We should stop moaning and welcome the two additions to the squad, personally I think they are very good and the team can now get on with playing football. We also brought in Corluka which was much needed.
Campbell isn't anywhere near the quality of Berba or Keane if he was why didn't Ferguson keep him and save himself 30 million? Even if he scores 50 goals Man Utd aren't obliged to accept any bid from us. We sold our best players to our rivals albiet for very good money and in the case of Keane (becausing I'm assuming that Pav is a berb replacement did not get a better replacement) we claim to be a potential top four club but we don't have a top four mentality. None of the top four have sold their best players to their other top four rivals.
well said Spurminator :)

I would say Levy has shown plenty of balls - in the face of all the 'appeasers' saying take £20m for Berbs- he said no - we want £30m - that's it

and he won - we got that plus an excting prospect of a youngster who is worth about £7m on loan for a year

As I say time and again to me the Levy model is not the best way forward - the billionaire benfactor is that

maybe just maybe we might get a groundswell of change and the majority of Spurs fans ditching their opposition to 'buying success' - the way to beat the Chelseas & Citehs of this world is to join them

if not that, if not the Levy 'trading model' - then what?

Real balls would have been to tell Berba that he is staying. ( see Ferguson's handling of Ronaldo and Zenit for examples.)

The facts are if Levy & Co were serious about letting him (can't say his name still hurts to much ) go, then why the f*ck didn't they get it sorted earlier and get a real replacement in.

Why, Why, Why...!!!

The upshot of this whole f*cked up mess is Levy and his band of merry men are not fit to run our club.

Silvestre went from Utd to Arse. Last season Diarra went from Chavs to Arse and the year before Cashley went from Scum to Chavs and Gallas went vice versa....

part from those mistakes I do agree with what your saying. If you want to be a top 4 club then you got to have that mentality too i.e. dont strengthen the arms of your so called rivals....

That would have been very clever. I'm sure he'd have repaid us with the same 100% commitment he's demonstrated ever since he signed up.

No, Campbell isn't the same quality. We obviously think he's worth a whirl though. And does anyone really think we're stupid enough not to have some right to buy clause inserted?

Loosely translates into: Levy f*cked up yet again and in order to try and disguise the problem he brings in a loaner

yes i could believe. especially if we it had got to last minutes and we were desperate. I could believe that totally.

Rasiak happened didnt it.

Not sure where you get your certainty that we know what we are doing from? Its just as much a leap of faith as believing we dont.

Silvestre wasn't Man U's best player and Diarra wasn't one of Chelseas best players. In the case of scum and Chav they both swapped players of equal quality and importance.
