So it all goes horribly wrong.

Man Utd and Ferguson show Levy how it is done. Veni Vidi Vici.

Our hard line stance got us an extra few few million and the chance to blood in a youngster for them. Yes thats right, a looooaaan deal for a kid that we give back to them

We have gone from Berbatov, Keane, Defoe, Bent

To Pav, Bent, Man Utd lad on on work experience.

Did Levy go back with a proper bid ever for Arshavin? We will never know, either way, it was all too late.

Had Man Utd been in our shoes, Arshavin would be theirs this morning, i Have no doubt. Unfortunately we have Levy in our shoes and he got us Campbell. On loan.

SO even if Campbell turns out to be a star turn still Man Utd win.

copied and pasted from ITK thread discussion

Its official we ARE a feeder club to Man Utd
We sell them are best players then take a player of theirs own loan to give him valuable experience. whoopee!

Yes Levy and Co have done a lot of good for the club that doesn't mean that fans who disagree with Levy & co's actions should be down on their knees giving blow jobs to them for eternity.

Levy & co please be realistic, do you really expect Ramos to bring us the Uefa cup with Campbell and Bent up front? Do you think Campbell is better than Keane? Do you think Campbell is the sort of quality we need to fire us to a champions league place? Really? Really?

Was he on the famous Comolli shortlist?
I don't understand I've been pleased with the majority of transfers dealings then we fall at the final hurdle. Corluka cup tied, allowed Pav to be cup tied even though we've been linked with him for months. Two months of negotiation with Arshavin all for nothing. Only have Zokora as our DM, while Fellani goes to Everton.

What happened to this famous mile long Comolli scouting list?
Come on Levy and Co stop the bullshitting. Let Ramos do his job and stop expecting him to bring us champions league with a blindfold on and one hand tied behind his back.

Weren't we told that the club wouldn't sell our best players unless we had replacements ready?
I guess Pav is our Berbatov replacement. We needed someone and maybe he will do well. It's always a risk.
This makes Campbell our replacement for our 20 goal a season vice captain. Unless that is what Giovanni is supposed to be. I have high hopes for both these lads to be honest, but I would feel a whole lot better if Campbell was ours for keeps. It is truly embarassing that a loan has been used as part of the Berba deal. All I can think is that United matched our valuation, and in return for doing business and dropping the allegations they've helped us out with our striker crisis. It must have been quite apparent by the time that the Berba deal went through that we were pretty screwed. Of course, the loan will help united out more in the long run.

If we continue to struggle for goals up to January and we sit in the bottom half, out of the Carling cup, Ramos will throw the towel in and allow Levy to find another mug to try and manage a club that relishes complication, arrogance and lack of balls. Levy has balanced the books, raised the dividends for the share holders, but in terms of moving the club forward he has failed. We are now becoming further removed from the top 4 and now the likes of Man City, Villa and Pompey will accelerate past us leaving us in mid table with the likes of Newcastle, Boro and West Ham until we change owners or our owners cahnge their tight fisted strategy.

We will never expnd WHL or move away because Levy will never agree to the large level of investment required, because he always is looking for a quick retyrn on his investment. Levy has taken this club as far as he can. Football has moved on since he became chairman. We now have super rich people owning competitor clubs. Chelsea, City, Villa and Pompey.

Why is it embaressing we have Cambell on loan? I think it's ideal, we needed a third striker, he is a great talent, we don't have to pay over the odds in transfer fees and this way we can see how he plays for the season and then make a bid if we want to keep him. I think its great business and for the team we have three strikers that we needed.

Berbatov was always heading out, Keane went to his boyhood club and Defoe was sold because he didn't get enough games. We should stop moaning and welcome the two additions to the squad, personally I think they are very good and the team can now get on with playing football. We also brought in Corluka which was much needed.

well said Spurminator :)

I would say Levy has shown plenty of balls - in the face of all the 'appeasers' saying take £20m for Berbs- he said no - we want £30m - that's it

and he won - we got that plus an excting prospect of a youngster who is worth about £7m on loan for a year

As I say time and again to me the Levy model is not the best way forward - the billionaire benfactor is that

maybe just maybe we might get a groundswell of change and the majority of Spurs fans ditching their opposition to 'buying success' - the way to beat the Chelseas & Citehs of this world is to join them

if not that, if not the Levy 'trading model' - then what?

Excuse me but how did Man Utd come out on top? They offered 20m we wanted 28m. We got 31m and a great prospect on loan with maybe a possibility of permanent move. Levy's hard line won out. OK we didn't want to sell Berba and Keane but we didn't have a choice as it's the players who have the power, well done to Levy for getting the best deal possible.

Would have been nice if it was completed earlier so we could spend the money but there's always Jan.

Campbell is the type of player we should be loaning out not taking on loan! If he sets the world alight i'm sure he'll just go back to Man U! I'm astounded by how we've chosen to do business & the players we have bought in. It suggests we are gunning for a top 10 finish rather than top 4

The clubs have the power as players are under contract - didnt Arshavin want to come to us? Ronaldo want to go to Real Madrid?. You are right though there is January so lets hope we are not out of everything by then!

Wouldnt the best deal have been to have got the highest price for Keane & Berbatov & brought in suitable replacements? Are Campbell & Pavliuchenko as good as Keane & Berbatov? If not we have witten off the season so its a big risk to take!

Regarding the Keane replacement - I would say that it's GDS Bentley and Campbell

we will play a somewhat different style - but still basically 4-4-2 - just looking for creativity from a wider range of people

Berbs and Keane won't be easily replaced of course

a lot of people seemed to quickly forget just what a great player Berbs is - in their haste to condemn him last season let alone this

Fergie has seen the quality that so many of us have appreciated and savoured - while others have missed the joy of Berba with their 'body language' analyses etc

fact is Keane and Berbs wanted to go

we have to build again - we have three strikers who effectively have cost nothing due to Levy's bargaining skills

Last year a lot of people said 4 strikers was too many - well now we've got 3 - so numbers wise they should be happy

we've also got in Bentley and GDS people who push forward and add creativity to the team

I must I have my doubts about GDS - but many on here have lauded him to the skies

Exactly. The fact that we sold Berbatov and Keane means that players who come to Spurs will firmly believe that we won't stand up to the Top 4 if they come knocking. We have exposed ourselves quite horrendously with the sales of Berbatov and Keane. Players will increasingly view our club as a stepping stone to 'greater' things, and clubs will know that if the price is right, they can have any one of our players.

That's true - but for me I'd prefer £30m plus Campbell to a sulky Berbs -

he was a tremendous quality player for us - but this season had become a liability -

Keane likewise wanted out - and here I think we did take the money and run as it's probably true we could have realistically held on to Robbie - but for £20m - we effectively got GDS & Bentley in return

we'll see how that one pans out

so far this season none of the three have stood out - but probably Bentley has done more than Keane

I guess Pav is our Berbatov replacement.
I hope not since they can't be compared. Two completely different players.

We actually haven't got a real brain in our attack....not until january anyway

It seems to me that every club is a stepping stone, Flamini and Hleb left Arsenal, Ronaldo will continue to linked away from Man Utd, Robben left chelsea. i'm glad we can draw a line under the whole sorry saga.

My best wishes go out to Bent, Pav and Frazier, with that midfield supplying them i'm predicting 45 league goals between the three of them

COYS!

Financially the Keane & Berbatov deals have been fantastic but money is only good to a club if its spent wisely & i can't help but think Pav & Campbell is a step down from Keane & Berbatov. Money sitting in the bank doesnt win trophy's & in my opinion thats what football is all about. I've no problem with Keane & Berbatov going but surely the replacements should have been of a higher quality. The season starts in August not January!

The new additions are great. I am very impressed with all of our signings this year in both windows. Our squad is better now than last season. The embarassing part is that we somehow got in such a mess with replacing Berbatov and Keane that we found ourselves in a situation where Campbell on loan has been essential to get us out of a hole rather than as an extra option on top of our intented targets. It works very well for United because they will take the player back if he does well this season, but they dont have to weaken their team by playing such an inexperienced player. Surely you can see how badly it reflects on us. It was an act of desparation on our part. Again. And if we continue to develop FC into a great young player this season, then United come out as the winners when they get more than 'just' Berbatov for their 30 million bananas.

Let the midfield be the brains - like it should be.

And if we continue to develop FC into a great young player this season, then United come out as the winners when they get more than 'just' Berbatov for their 30 million bananas.

This is the key thing that we'll need to clear up, and it will shift my turmoiled perspective depending on it's outcome.

And that's a Power to Buy clause [s'what I'm calling it :p] in our favour, i.e. if we think he's had a good year and we cough up £[x] he's ours no matter what. Manchester United get no say in it etc.

I'm hoping for a squeaky-bum Chairman Statement on it all.

but we are not going to develop campbell for manure's convenience, at least not publicly. we should really be looking to get the most out of pav and bent and use campbell strictly as backup. meanwhile , we get to have a really good look at him in training, and perhaps bid in january or in the summer accordingly. then manure won't know if he has been doing really well, and we could get him for a reasonable fee..
(i.e not 15 million!)
