We went into the summer with a 30-40 million war chest for transfers. Once the transfer window had closed, our transfer activity looked something like:

Bought

DosSantos
Pavyulchenko
Bentley
Modric
Gomes
Corluka

Total 67.5 million

Sold

Robinson 3.5 million

Chimbo
Malbranque
Tainio
Kaboul
23 million

Gardner 2.5 million

Pyo Lee 1 million

Berbatov 32 million

Keane 21 million

Total 83 million

Balance 15.5 million in the bank

Add 15,5 profit to our original transfer kitty, how is it possible we now do not have money to seriously strengthen in January, which we certainly must do, or is it a smoke screen by mr levy, he said "we must sell first" in his tv interview, ""just a couple of minor changes" he said, I bloody well hope not, we still have to replace Berbatov, add a left sided midfielder and a midfield general. I hope they are not already saving for the new stadium and compromising the strength of the team.

Oh my god, we've had threads on this already. He's hardly going to come out and say we've got £50m burning a hole is he? We've spent loads of money over the past few years and it hasn't worked for us. There will be a bit of cash for reinforcements, but we're trying to change our ways.

He said the same thing last year before we spent £20m buying a whole new defence.

Nope. Our policy is we never spend more than we make. And we have made losses recently.

Don't forget the world economic crisis. It will impact, and so will the planned investment in the new stadium. There's a reason why Arsenal have not spent big in the transfer market, and it's bowl shaped.

You are talking rubbish, sorry mate. In his interview he stated that Harry didn't think the squad needed much tweaking but would have money to make the 1 or 2 additions he thought might be necessary. There wouldn't won't be wholesale changes. And he also categorically stated that the financing of the stadium would in no way be at the expense of the team.

It would be crazy to say "we're going to spend 20 million quid", or some other large sum at this point. It will only make negotiations harder.

The bottom line is not a great many players worth buying will be availble in the Jan transfer window. If the right player is on the market for the right price then I am sure we will make our move.

Redknapp may well look to make a couple of loan/free transfers simply to see us through the end of the season with a view to making our more long term transfers over the summer.

I think atleast some of Levy's statement is designed to give the impression we are either not looking to make transfers or not able to make them for large money come January, to avoid selling clubs holding out for more and more money assuming we are desperate to buy and have money to burn.

If we approach a club with either a player they need to ship out (large wage bill or palyer causing unrest for example) our need to buy may appear less then their need to sell and we therefore going into negoations from a stronger postion.

As loyalyid said, £15.5 profit on players out + whatever our transfer kitty was to start with, how have we made losses?

i think levy is playing a very good game here. Harry is know for getting bargins, so why should we come out come out and say he's has 20 odd million to spend. Then if we come knocking the price would go up. There will be money for happy to spend only where needed.

PAYOFFS.

Do you realize how much it takes to get rid of Ramos, DC and pay off Portsmouth?

Read this one:

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=38388

It sucks but was necessary.

Well considering their saying 20 mil in the media which always over exaggerate number, the 15 mil mark is probably more realistic which was basically our profit from last summers player trading.

Now consider what the initial transfer kitty was and the record results we have just posted and I think its silly to think we have nothing to spend.

It will be the usual story...if the right players are available (Defoe, Diarra) they will be bought. We wont be buying for the sake of it or spending like teenage Arabs but I would be amazed if wqe bring nobody in.

Nice one loyalyid, I take it you just made those figures up yourself? The club did release a statement just after the transfer window closed, stating the amount spent, but don't let a little thing like the facts get in your way.

He says this every window, then we go and spend 20 mill. If you say that you are going to get players in, every player you enquire about is 5 mill more expensive.

The accounts released last week showed we had debts of £14m. The pay-offs to Ramos and co would increase that to around £25m.

Doubt if we have anything like £40m to spend. More like £15m.

harry was talking yesterday about loan players - players on a free as well as possibly buying a couple

HR is well known as a shrewd man in the transfer market - oof course he makes mistakes - but if anyone is likeely to bring in a couple of good 'cheap 'uns' - it's Harry

the wages may be a problem - but I leave that all up to Hrry & Danny
