Tottenham rejects Dulux shirt deal

English club Tottenham Hotspur's chairman Daniel Levy has turned down Dulux Paints offer for a GBP 6 million a year shirt sponsorship, reports the Daily Mail.

Levy has declared that he believes the club with its Championship League qualifying place performance last season should be worth at least GBP 10 million annually. The White Hart Lane club, he believes, should get at least half of the GBP 20 million that Standard Chartered Bank is paying Liverpool.

Levy may have become too used to the great deal of GBP 8.5 million a year that the Spurs had with Mansion - that deal was made immediately after the online gambling firm was rejected by Manchester United. Given the present economic climate many Premier League clubs would have jumped at the Dulux deal. Levy has said he is ready to wait for the right offer.

Here is my point about potentially not getting a sponsor. Whilst I agree with Levy saying the the deal is "worth at least GBP 10 million annually". I fear if we hold out to long we might miss out...

Also when i first read the title i thought it said:

"Levy rejects Durex sponsorship...." Eek

Why do I get the feeling the new shirts aren't going to be on general sale until the first home game of the season..........

Thank God, the last thing we need is jokes about paint drying.

A lovely thought has just hit me, a whole season with nothing written across our shirts, no walking billboard just the Tottenham shirt!!
I know I'm old fashioned and I know it's worth a lot of money but I still hate carrying adverts on our shirts, call it sponsorship if you like but an advert is what it is.

Was the real reason because they couldn't provide a Mediteranean Blue for the sponsor logo?

"Best we can do is this fetching "Mineral Mist" shade, I think you'll find it agreeable"

"Nope, it clashes too much with the drapes. Get out!"

Levy has always been a tough negotiator. Who knows we might still be in negotiations with other firms (Zurich has been mentioned) and Dulux might not have come close to their bids so have been turned down.

If nothing has been sorted by July then I might start worrying. But plenty of time yet.

I couldn't agree more. Hate those billboards. Just something we have to live with I suppose.

I was under the impression that the shirt and ground sponsors were sorted a few months ago (hence why Barber was allowed to go on secondment), and just haven't be announced while the Mason deal is still running so as not to undermine that.

Strongest rumours so far have been that the shirt is going to be Bloomberg for £12m a year.

The dulux ones would be like paint charts, there differnt shade of white for the home shirt, and Blues for the away

Hopefully they'll start selling sponsorless shirts in the meantime WIN.

Not if a deal has already been signed, the sponsor would go mad!

Presumably if we did sign a deal we'd go from being the lilywhites to the magnolia whites?

I'll get my coat (of paint).
