Liverpool are they better than us?

This is by far the most exciting thing going forward, but is also uncharted territory for us and therefore you can't really blame people for thinking otherwise. Personally I think people are right to consider Liverpool a big threat, because if they get it right they will be. That said we are really on to something here and if we keep Poch and all the key players and add a couple (Witsel and Batshauyi in the news sound perfect) we should be looking forward rather than back, regardless of what the rest of the league are up to. Assuming we avoid full meltdown and tie up CL things are looking very bright...

I don't think folk are right to consider Liverpool to be a big threat...I think they are right to consider that they might be a threat if... - but they should also be considering that we are fahooking good, will naturally get better with age and experience, and have the head coach, infrastructure, youth set-up, financial stability and soon stadium, for what we have now to just be the ground-work of our improvement. Liverpool have more finances than us, but those finances have not been as well managed, and the gap has been halved in the last decade. Their squad is inferior, their youth set-up is inferior, their training facilities are inferior, and their cobbled together stadium development will be inferior to our brand new build, made for purpose, higher capacity stadium.

And the truth is, what you say is very true - if they get it right they will be a threat. But that's where the problem is with this thread. Because that is a statement that can be applied to a lot of teams and not just last season's top four, either. But it is being made about Liverpool...why? Because they drew with Dortmund away when we were biatched there? But that has already been answered - we sent out a weakened team, Liverpool didn't. Because in spite of the fact that this will be the sixth season in seven that we finish above them, many Spurs fans have a huge, all encompassing inferiority complex when it comes to Liverpool? Because that is the truth - every single season since the first season we finished above them, these forums have been filled with claims that Liverpool will be better next season, they will overtake us, they will spend more money, they've spend more money better, they can keep their best players and we can't blah blah blah.

And you know what...no, no they haven't. They finished above us once largely because a World Class bitey racist **** had a season to die for. Then they were forced to sell him...then they were forced to sell Sterling...then they spent lots of money several times - and we have still finished above them six seasons out of seven. When we finish in the top four this season - and we will - it will be the third time in those seven seasons we have finished in the top four. We have never finished below sixth in those seven seasons. Liverpool have finished in the top four once and seventh or lower three times, and likely to be four in those seven seasons. Indeed, they have finished higher than sixth once in those seven seasons.

The innate inferiority complex - they are a massive club, with a huge history - is one reason there is such a fixation with them. It has raised its ugly head every year since we first usurped them. Another reason is the whole Klopp cult of personality thang. As I said above, he has a record of winning major honours and he is further down his career path than Poch, but our man has shown that he can cope with the heightened competition in the Prem. The type of heightened competition where any game (but Villa) is likely to be a game you have to really fight to win, and any one of them could be a game where if you ain't 100% you could lose. Klopp hasn't had that in Germany and he hasn't shown that he can cope with it yet. He's going to be competing against more better teams, more clubs that are better and richer than Liverpool - did he have to cope with that in Germany? He is likely going to have to face more better managers, too - again, did he have that in Germany?

And the whole cult of personality thang...enough all ready! He's loud and in everyone's face, and the press are lapping it up. I'm telling you, in his first game, at the Lane, anyone who went to the game would have missed the fact that about a third of the match time the cameras were switching to Klopp to see what jovial antics he was up to. I found it nauseating. And when I analyse this whole Liverpool are gonna do this that and the other next season, that's what I see. Something that has been said in slightly different ways with slightly different explanations every single season since we first finished above them. I'm not writing them off, because anything can happen, but I am a tad tired of folk concentrating on them so that everything about them becomes magnified in their minds, while neglecting the fact that we have a hell of a lot going for us - enough to not spend months and months trembling in fear because Liverpool might...

And that, my fiend, is why folk are obsessing just because Liverpool have had a half decent result where we didn't in our corresponding fixture because we sent out a scratch side :)

Anyone making predictions about next season are foolish. I remember for the last 2 years everyone shitting their pants about the signings Liverpool were making and look how that turned out. In saying that Leicester Fucking City are about to win the league so literally anything is possible.

Not everyone :)

Very well said. All true.

How do we measure quality in football?

If it's just by results, does that mean that Leicester are actually the best team in the league? Do they play the best football? Would you swap our starting 11 with theirs? Do they have more technical ability than us?

You might say yes to them being the best but it's certainly no to the other questions. ..

Liverpool lack quality in numerous areas too imo but are hard working and played
Dortmund like Leicester would have. They're not better than us but they played better than we did that's for sure.

Yep , a lot of truth in what SP says....however , I'm not too sure about the Klopp makes him nauseous bit .

For me , he's a very entertaining and spontaneous post match interview .

EG he came on for the post Spurs match interview saying he was a bit down re the result....he then gave an accurate précis
of the match including several interesting in-game tactical details .

He finished his monologue ,laughed and said 'Well now I've talked 5 mins about the match like this , maybe it was a fair result '

Good info and humour . Comes over very well (in a second language) . I can see why the press like him and why he's generally popular.....and alas , it looks like the scousers are playing better .

Point of order: I didn't say Klopp makes me nauseous. I said the media wankfest and the cult of personality surrounding him make me nauseous (y)(y)(y)

That's Liverpool for you, one moment they look great the next they look poor. They're a very inconsistent club, you never know which Liverpool will turn up. A bit like the old Spurs.

Liverpool are buying flavour of the month and turning them into shit.
(Mignolet, Lovren, Clyne, Moreno, Lallana, Benteke, Ings, Sturridge)
Spurs do canning transfer business and this season finally succeeded at forming a team unit from previously mostly surprising or unknown names.

They're better at 'pulling a Spurs' than we are...so much so it needs to now be 'pulling a 'Pool'

Some extremely childish responses to a simple question. During our match against them they "matched" us on the field. The game could have gone either way. Lloris as it turns out saved us.

Another poster has just mentioned their striker options vs our one. I feel that next season they will be challenging with us for the top 4. We always used the famous line of our coach inheriting his squad and give him time with his own players. Poch has now moulded his squad. Liverpool with a mix of what they have and Klopp making some additions will have them at our level next season.

especially if they have no European commitments

They really are.

The term "Spursy" really needs to be adapted in Liverpool terms as they've been more Spursy than we have for a few years now.
