I firmly believe from watching this game that Liverpool are better than us. They press so well and seem to have a lot more going for them in attack. Unlike the other games where it felt like we were in control and had the opposition at arms length, here it feels like we are lucky to be clinging on. This game feels at the moment like a big team playing against a mid table team defending for their life.

But...........the stars just seem to keep aligning for us. If we make some clever substitutions and get a bit more luck, you never know we might just get something from this game. A draw keeps us top of the league and Mourinho knows that.

I'm channelling my inner Mourinho; "For this match, I think, there are only two outcomes of interest. Usually three outcomes, but for today only 2. Either we remain top of the league, or we do not remain top of the league. That's to me the only interesting question. How we remain top of the league...phew...you can think about that. You can calculate your xG. For me top of the league is good. Not top of the league is not that good".
Hahaha quality

Bergwijn has a particular job. That's closing down the left wing. It's not his natural game but it does help slow down their flank. I don't think it's helping his cause, a few sloppy passes have made him look worse than he has been imo.

I think what's gone unnoticed by the pundits, is how we've had 3 or 4 through balls that were just cut out. If that ball doesn't hit Bergwijn's heel or a couple of other passes are a few inches better, we'd have been through for 1v1s.

As Son's goal showed, all it takes is one quality pass and we'll create a better chance than any Liverpool can create against our defensive setup.

It's not pretty and Liverpool have played well, but the margins are fine in both teams' attacks.

Sorry peeps, but this has 2-1 or 3-1 to Liverpool written all over it.

What's sad, is that we'd get that result by playing like Leeds or Wolves, you know, proper football, and on the odd chance we'd get a win since Liverpool are defensively weak

I am actually amazed that VAR did not (a) award a penalty against us (Dier handball) and (b) rule out Son's goal for offside. Both looked marginal and ultimately subjective.
Yup, but thats VAR for you - a cointoss every time. Sometimes you get lucky, and get it right everytime, other times it's all wrong.
The problem, though, is that the final arbiter of refereeing decisions shouldnt dead wrong half the time

Would put Sissoko back into the middle and bring on Ndombele for GLC at some point.

Reading this thread you'd think we were down by 3 against West Brom.

Relax it's going after the plan so far.
more by luck than judgement. its ok to defend deep but there needs to be an escape route out when we get the ball. at the moment liverpool keep getting the ball back, if that continues into the second half they will score one or two more.

We've had to rely on Hugo a bit, and thank fuck we have him. But I think after that half, we'll grow into this now. We're in Liverpool's heads.

Still say VAR is gonna shaft us.
