We aren't going to do shit unless we can learn how to defend, you can't give away 2/3 goals at Anfield and expect to come out winners.

Personally I thought it was a good game from two excellent sides that could have gone either way. I think they were quicker than us on the break with the pace of Sturridge,Ibe, coutinio. But we matched them in most departments. It was another good team performance. The only criticism I have is on 2 fronts. One is poch's subs no way should eriksen have come off especially as he has been instrumental in late goals this season and more importantly his free kicks. The other is I still find it hard to see what lamely offers. I know a lot on here like the guy but to me he runs around like a headless chicken and is constantly giving the ball away and more often than not picking the wrong pass. I know everyone says he's still learning but you can see after a good full season now that his style of play has nothing to offer other than enthusiasm and there are a lot of others who can give that and a lot more? But as I say it was a good game with a very disappointing ending but lots to look forward to.

I hate playing Liverpool. It's the games I want to win most every season and we never win. I hate it.

Thank Christ we're not playing them in the league cup final. Watching them lift the cup and listening to the pundits and fans post game would have been f*cking unbearable.

I hate them too, still feel a bit sick thinking about this game.

I don't expect this to be a popular opinion but I'd rather lose to Chelsea in the final than Liverpool, I guess with Chelsea I just feel more of an expectancy to lose so when we do it's not really surprising. There's just something I hate about Liverpool, very few players in their team that I actually like. Seeing a picture of that fucking bonehead Skrtel celebrating this morning made me want to punch my laptop screen. It's annoying that we don't have the fortune of putting things right quickly either as we have a little wait until the next set of matches now.

The real shame is that they were there for the taking. I was less annoyed and hurt after they thrashed us 3-0 at WHL or 5-0 last season because last season we were just shit at that time and this season we were in very early stages of our transition with Poch. We're much better now and it was annoying to not see us capatalise on a pretty average Liverpool side, especially one without Sterling.

We have the fight, desire and energy in the team now which is great to see and it will get us fairly far still but not where we want to be. We just lack a bit more quality. Every week we have a fully fit squad to choose from which is great when you hear it but sometimes I look at the squad as a whole and can't help but think despite that we are lacking. You look at our bench yesterday and you can think it doesn't look bad but there's really only Chadli on there who could potentially changed a match in a positive way.

I don't mind being linked with the likes of Danny Ings and Jay Rodriguez, if I'm honest I doubt I would have said that last season and would have said we need to be aiming higher if we're to challenge for the CL. What Poch has done this season with young and developing players that are willing to fight hard has giving me a different outlook but I still hope that we're looking to add a bit quality in the form of supposed 'world class' players or close to that. I know it's easier said than done but I just hope it's something we're looking to do.

Tbf, there was only one really badly defended goal (technically) and that was the 3rd.

The 1st one Markovic was given a bit too much space, but Hugo let in a softie there. The 2nd was just Rose being clumsy, but we had more than enough players covering so I'd say individual error rather than poor defending.

We lost.

But I'm not demoralised at all.

It's nice to have a team to be proud of again.

I'm hurting a little bit but that's true. At the end of last season all I was asking is that we didn't get thrashed in all these big matches again and not only have we not been thrased in all of them but we've done a bit of thrasing ourselves. Thrashed Chelsea in terms of the scoreline at WHL and thrashed Arsenal even more in relation to the play. Could easily have gotten 3 points at Anfield yesterday and got a point away to Arsenal. If we were to play City next week I'd go into it thinking we can win it for sure. At least we're certainly moving in the right direction.

I think I like Arsenal fans more than Liverpool fans. The crowd there always irritates me. They're the spoilt brats of the football league - if it's not going their way, they whinge and gripe and as soon as it does go their way, they're gloating and in your face about it over the smallest of things.

Granted, they have history. And lots of it. But that's what it is, history. It's like seeing a haggard old ex-supermodel acting like everyone should still find them attractive.

I felt Dier was a bit slow moving out to Markovic for the first to be honest. On the 3rd as soon as I saw Bentaleb running over to cover I was a bit worried. I've only seen the goal once so not sure if it was his fault at all bit I do know that his defending in those exact positions is really weak.

He did look a little reluctant to stick his foot out, but the third he trying not to commit to either man, imo.

PM'd you

In work now, God i am in a bad mood, kept waking up in the night thinking i can't believe we lost to them. Painful. No complaints about the team- they gave it everything. Bold sticking with the same team and asking them to repeat Saturday's performance and only in retrospect can i see that freshening the team up would have been useful- particularly Davies for Rose, who is an all (mostly) or nothing (when tired) type player.
We will have to use the squad more in forthcoming games and we need some of the squad players to really step up and seize their chance. Problem is that those who could be the most useful like Townsend and Paulinho have failed to do so when given that chance so far. They need to grab their chance now, as Dembele has done, if we are to get top 4.

Yeah we ran out of steam which is perfectly understandable. Liverpool barely broke a sweat vs everton. At least we have a decent break now before it gets crazy again.

Giving Markovic too much space=poor defending
Hugo let in a softie=poor defending
Rose being clumsy=poor defending
Individual errors leading to goals=poor defending

Thanks mate, just watched the 3rd again. It's really bad defending from Rose, Bentaleb and Chadli to be honest. Chadli was late in recognising the run of Lallana behind the 2 marking and both Rose and Bentaleb are standing off. When there's two of you marking a player at least one of them needs to get close, pressure and try to take the ball but they both ridiculously stand off simply allowing the pass to me made.
I'm surprised to see so many people blame Dier for that to be honest, the ball was absolutely fizzed in. I'm not saying he couldn't have done better but it's harsh to pin blame on him, also as much as I hate to say it I will also say it was good movement from Balotelli too.

You can add the pundits to that. I had to mute BT Sport last night, not only that I had to turn off their pre match build up and analysis because of that biased twat McManaman. Then in the studio they had some random scouser and Gary McAllister, Owen on commentary being completely one sided, as you would expect it was just a complete Scouse overload. Even turned on 5 Live commentary briefly and they had lifetime Liverpool fan Alan Green leading the charge, all that was missing was Phil Thompson doing SSNs coverage. God I hate them, ive been getting bombarded with pics of Super Mario since last night too, bastards lol

Bit of a sickener to give it away at the end, but nothing to be too disheartened about. Could have gone either way, some good spells together with some very sloppy play indeed.

As others have said, the game highlighted a few issues.

We have a very young team and it showed at times, but they'll learn. Bentaleb needs to realise that the quick, blind balls across the back four/CM are risky when you have a team that presses high. Arsenal basically let us have the ball and defended deep. It backfired spectacularly, but nevertheless that's what they did. Can't approach the game the same way against this Liverpool team at Anfield.

Not sure about the overall approach either. Under Harry we were always accused of being far too open, but if anything we are more open now. Just because we don't play 4-4-2 and have an extra man in midfield, the high press and fullbacks pushing on means any turnover of possession basically leads to the opposition having a free run on our goal. I like our aggressive approach, but feel it needs to be a bit more controlled at times. Sometimes it feels like players a just diving in all over the shop and if it doesn't work we are left exposed and have to rely on our superior fitness to bomb back like nutters. Again though, this could be just as much about inexperience as tactics.

Still not convinced by our full backs. Both can be such an asset, but then often can't deliver the simple consistent balls into the box that makes their attacking play amount to anything meaningful. And both (especially Rose) can be easily got at.

Finally, after losing both Bale and Suarez respectively, I don't think there is much between the 2 sides quality wise. Liverpool have greater strength in depth though, when you looked at their bench and ours and consider that Sterling was also injured.

Things are improving nicely, but the squad still needs a fair bit of work imo.
