We don't have the budget to challenge the top sides, it's as simple as that. Levy has done a pretty good job at keeping us competitive whilst generally breaking even with transfer fees and not paying top level wages.

If we want to challenge, we need a sugar daddy or, long term, a new stadium. As things stand we'd need to uncover 3 more Bales in order to afford the kind of players we'd need to take us up to the top.

The question is, in the meantime are we gonna try or not? Might as well try, so get in the best manager possible. That seems to be LVG.
Surely with the right manager you dont need a huge budget...look at what Klopp did at Dortmund , Atletico Madrid this season, even Arsenal before this year never spent big.

Certainly in exceptional circumstances that can be the case, but it shouldn't be expected.

It's never easy with spurs is it? We are going to have a twitchy summer all dreading that we are just being used and he waltzes into the utd job at the last minute.

All of these managers got/get time to build without being under immediate pressure.

I honestly think LVG is our last hope of being a top 4 side. Players will listen to whatever he has to say and I think if we bring him in players will think twice about wanting out this summer

Yes and what have they won since the big money came into the league? It can be done, but I don't think it'll happen in the Premier League now for many many years.

I've been guilty of this myself recently, but a lot of us have forgotten where Spurs are as a club compared to those around us.

Chelsea and City have mega-bucks. United are one of the richest clubs in Europe. Arsenal have a weekly revenue that is close to twice ours, and even Liverpool have a huge amount more money than us.

Based on spending alone, 6th is about right for Spurs, and we've done very well to stay above that for quite a few seasons in a row.

To consistently be higher than that we'd need significant spending, and whilst there is a media perception that we spend a lot of money, the fact is that we break even more often than not in terms of transfer spending.

For clubs like Spurs and Everton, we have to try and be a bit more long-term, but the problem is that Levy has set his target as 4th, so anyone who doesn't get that is immediately under pressure.

If we go for Van Gaal, Levy HAS to be more realistic and has to give him time (at least three seasons). If he doesn't then we may as well put me in charge for all the good that it will do.

I think you'll have to chose one of them.

Wenger has been given all the time to re-build not build. His immediate success was mainly down to him of course but it did help having Seaman, that back four, Ian Wright (ok wasn't at his best but still good), Ray Palour and Dennis Bergkamp already there. You build a team from the back and that part had already been done for Wenger.

As for Klopp it's no surprise, Dortmund were still recovering from stupid amounts of debt that they had incurred from about 2000 to 2005, could be wrong but I think it was as much if not more than Leeds Utd. The only way they could build teams was through youth as they couldn't afford anything else. In fact the side of 2011 was the youngest team to ever win the Bundesliga, they also entered the record books with points tally and equaled 25 wins in a season that the famous Bayern side of 73 had achieved.

God how I would love him at our club a real German version of Bill Nich, oh well Levy wouldn't most probably see him to be too nice and the perfect fall guy :(

Yeah, Van Gaal or Capello for me. Both would light a fire under the players arses for sure and have the respect of Levy.

Unfortunately, IMO it won't be enough on its own. Despite spending the best part of £100m, our squad is severly lacking in several areas. All this talk of the best squad in 20 years etc is bull to me. Apart from our keeper, it's a long way behind the squad we had 2010.

I understand LVG doesnt want to manage us until after the world cup but cant we get the deal done now? Sack Sherwood, then just get the coaches to have a meeting with LVG and see how he wants to set the team out and we can start to implement it for the last ten weeks of the season. That way we get a head start on next year and LVG's ideas wont be totally alien to the players.

This is my biggest fear. He holds all the cards - hell we can't even sack Sherwood until we have van Gaal strapped to a chair with his hand nailed on a desk ready to sign the contract in case we sack Tim and Louis then mugs us off and does a Willian.

And even looking at out current squad. Erikssen, Lloris, Walker, Adebayor, Sandro - some of our best players and none over £12m.

If we were to sack TS, we should ask LVG who he wants a his #2 and appoint him as interim manager. I imagine he would pick someone he knows well, so they would already have an idea of what he wants to implement and could be LVG's eyes and ears for when he comes in. I think he would also command respect knowing that he will be LVG's right hand man in the future.

If we don't get Van Gaal we'll go the way of Villa.

Sadly I'm not massively optimistic that we will get him.

He will come and the good thing is that he would have had six months watching our players thinking about how they can best suit his style and who he would like to bring in.
Maybe they'll be a bit more realistic for a club like us.

We have far too much quality to be compared to Villa. Man up! We're above United and Everton. Even if Jan and Lloris go, we still have Adebayor, Soldado, Eriksen, Lamela, Sandro, Paulinho. Villa only had Milner, Downing and Young. The reason we aren't struggling in mid table despite playing like strangers is because we have quality individuals.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

There will be managers available in the summer Prandelli probably wont renew (tactically excellent but not 100% sure he is a winner) Spalleti is available now (both of the above, question marks over english).

We just have to concede (well Levy does) that TS is not up to the job.

LVG, just can't come soon enough really, I just hope we can get some kind of a pre-season with him, but being a world cup year... Not a chance.
