I haven't followed these two cases closely but can someone explain to me why the John Terry incident is a matter for the police and Suarez case is not?
I looked into this and i found no translation where it says that - so not sure where that came from. Im also not going to believe that in an argument a player would say "mate" in a derogatory way.
I have hung darn and quartered him because he is a **** and called a black man Negrito.
I think the FA are going to get themselves into a right pickle over this.
I hope Terry gets dealt with far more severely but to not give the reasons for the ruling yet will lead to Pool fans becoming (even more) paranoid.
I know JT has been charged with a criminal offence but I don't understand the delay in his case where there is film showing what he did, as far as we know there isn't for LS, if you had your hand in the till at the bank they wouldn't wait for a criminal trial before taking action.
It literally has no bearing whatsoever that the word is generally meant to be endearing in Uruguay. He said it in an argument, and it does have connotations to colour clearly, I highly doubt he was trying to rile Evra up by endearing the shit out of him.
Ok, it might help if you re-read my post again, but actually i think you, and others here, can't quite seem to grasp the concept of this.
I think what's probably getting in the way here is the letters in the word Negrito.
I think if he'd said 'Oscurito' people wouldn't be picking up on this nearly as much, and ok that's not actually a word that's used to mean black person in Spanish (as far as i'm aware).
The point is that not that the word is endearing in how Suarez used it, as i said above already, but that in his mind it's not racist.
And frankly racism is, and should be, about what is meant by a person, not by what he says which is taken out of context.
Frankly this argument could go on and on, but i'm pretty much done, so here's my summation of it all, hopefully some of you will agree:
-> Evra was winding up Suarez and seemingly used some insutling language, be it racist or not.
-> Suarez reacted with a word that in his mind was not racist, but in the minds of people in the UK could be easily taken that way, in that way Suarez wqas wrong and he should've understood the fact that people might well take it to be racist, whether it was meant to be or not.
-> His punishment was a bit harsh, but fair.
-> Suarez is still a total ****.
-> Liverpool FC have made themselves look like twats in the aftermath.
-> Some Liverpool supporters have made themselves look like serious racist twats in the aftermath.
-> Some other people have been to offended by the whole situation.
-> Alan Hansen has struggled to keep up with modern political correctness words.
it's not like he said 'nigger' - which is what most people think the word means.
If im perfectly honest i couldn't give a flying fuck if its acceptable in Uruguay or other parts of the world as he now plays in the English premiership.
When i travel to the middle east for work i follow their rules and ways of life and Suarez should have done the same. So he should suck up the 8 game ban and accept what he did was wrong.
The word Negrito is not a racist word in Uruguay, so despite the fact that he should understand that it may be interpreted that way in the UK and thus shouldn't use it, it's not like he said 'nigger' - which is what most people think the word means. I've given a fuller explanation of this over the last couple of days that you can find a few pages back.
I can tell you for a fact that it doesn't mean nigger. The connotation is completely different, for example the 'ito' bit of the end is using the diminutive form of the word (which happens in most European languages) and is a sign that the word being used is meant to be endearing.
Obviously he's used it in an offensive way, but the point is that in Uruguay the word he used is not a racist word, and frankly given that this word doesn't exist in English, i struggle to see how it could be deemed racist here. Although i do concede that he shouldn't use it and that the punishment he got is ok.
Do you even know what the word Negrito means?
Probably not.
One final point from me, Pele - the finest Brazilian footballer in the world, is a nickname given to him based on the colour of his skin, the name basically translates to 'darky' - so should we all now start calling him Edson Arantes do Nascimento? Next time that someone labels an up and coming player as the next Pele - should we say hang on a minute you can't say that, it's racist?
Right now I think Kenny Dalglish is the most annoying twat in football management. Henceforth I shall call him Kenny Bullshit.
