Does anyone else wish we'd stop taking every free kick quickly?

We quite often win free kicks from which we could load their box with Alderweireld, Dembele, Kane etc. and pop a long ball in, but we seem to play every free kick short and quick which often means it gets immediately played back to our defence and worked around.

Although it's nice to have a reputation for playing it on the ground and being clever, I'd rather we played the percentages a bit more.

I get angry every time we do it, with loading the box up, there is always a good chance a knock down can result in an effort on goal.

Indeed. While people like Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis get stick for the general play of their teams, the way they exploit set pieces is something I am surprised more teams do not copy.

They are rare chances to put lots of men in the opposition box, and we've scored from quite a few corners this season so we can make them work

We are the top scorers from set pieces in the premier league this season (well we were about 3 weeks ago, can't confirm if we still are).

Despite the stick we give our delivery, we are clearly effective when the ball in is right, so yes, I would like to see us do it a bit more often.

But only when the defence is already set. If we win a foul during a counter attack, I'm all for taking it quickly and trying to exploit the defence being disorganised.

Would love to see what the average for goals scored from corners is compared to ours over the last few years.

I think we need a whole new approach to corners specifically. We can't get the ball beyond first defender to save our life.
Something like Eriksen executing a short ball into the first 1/4 of the box, Dembele receiving it and directly putting it 90 degrees to his side towards the outer part of the box, and Son firing off a shot from the corner of the box, something like that. Exploiting the fact that we can't get in into the middle of the box, rather then trying the same shite 16 times a match.

the Sunderland game was frustrating, Lamela had 2 corners both went to back post, and no-one there

Talking about lumping it into the box (not via a free-kick, but in general play), I wish Walker could lump it in whilst keeping stride. He always seems to stop the ball, take a step back and then try to cross it. It then usually hits the defender that has had the chance to close him down because of the time it has taken him. It's quite weird.

I think Walker would fall over if he tried to cross while running at pace...

I don't mind short/quick freekicks, what does infuriate me though is if we win a free kick in midfield and then by default we seem to play a couple of backward passes and end up minus 20 or 30 yards territory wise and the ball is back with the centre backs or even the goalkeeper.

It depends when in the game and where on the pitch we're talking about.

Putting everyone up threatens the shape of the team, so if we do it regularly it's actually quite high risk for a relatively low chance of reward.

I think if we're chasing a game then fair enough, but we shouldn't be doing it too often.

Not that our corners are great but have we ever scored from the cross/shot after taking a short corner?

We have a good record of scoring from set pieces this season, which is surprising to most of us who can only recall corners that go straight to a defender without ever getting across the goal and free kicks hammered into the wall- but more variety would be better in our attacks and patient build up generally is good but lets put it into the mixer occasionally. They don't like it up 'em!
