It is so clear now if it wasn't before why it's so important to qualify for the Champions League. Domestic cups just don't bring the same kind of magic that this competition does. I used to favour winning trophies of any kind. It has become clear in recent years however that it's more important to compete regularly at the top of the league, and play in the biggest club competition in the world. Last night was one of the most memorable and proud nights I've had as a Spurs fan. We lost the game, drew the tie yet because we got through on away goals it was incredible.

We are only at the semi final stage yet it feels like we won something already. We have won no trophies this decade yet they have been my best years supporting Spurs at 35 years old (the Poch era and before that the time under Redknapp). Forget all the obsession about winning a trophy because beating Real Madrid, outplaying Barca at the Nou Camp to come back from the dead in the group, hosting the first CL night in the new stadium and now last night are what it's all about. We are winning massive games this decade when the previous 2 decades felt like we could never win the big one. I would take that over beating Watford in a domestic cup final.

It's also a massive win for VAR. How often have we looked back at crucial decisions that went against us in the past? Decisions that VAR would have corrected. Maybe the tables will turn now, I'm sure we will have a share of VAR decisions go against us, but we'll also get given those obvious ones that have cost us before. There can be no excuses now. There will always be a debate but when VAR is used and the official makes his decision you can't really complain. If VAR wasn't used and that goal at the end stood we would have been up in arms today. They use it to form a fair judgement and it's entirely down to the refs interpretation according to their understanding of the rules.

I just hope now that we push on from here. We could still finish 6th and go out of another semi finals. Yet we could also finish 3rd and win the bloody Champions League. At least we're in this position though where in the past it would have been pure fantasy. Nights like last night just make you fall in love with Spurs but also football all over again. I can only hope Alderweireld and Eriksen have fallen more in love with us again now and sign new contracts. The incredible new stadium, the invigorated passion and the never say die attitude we now have make this an amazing time to follow Spurs.

Well done Poch and the team. You deserve this moment as much as the fans!

Our lot really are legends, another example in a long list of examples! We look like a rag bag bunch of no hopers who are wondering why they are there!! No fight, no desire!!! Pathetic.

For you classical scholars on SC
and I know there are quite a few:
What the Romans called ejaculatio praecox
Still quite common.

I think that once VAR is introduced into The Premier League next season that every fan of every team will have go through the season loving then despising VAR. Tonight I VAR got every decision right. I was slightly embarrassed by Rio Ferdinand saying that he seen the skin on Fernando Llorente's arm move as the ball hit it but the only thing I seen was the ball clearly hitting his hip. Its of little consequence what his opinion of the incident was as I felt the referee got it 100% correct. We were ourselves the victim of a VAR penalty in the first leg and I'm sure that almost everyone here, including myself, thought that it was never a penalty as Danny Rose clearly did not move his hand deliberately towards the ball. VAR made tonight's game epic but for me every decision was correct.
COYS ❤️

Actually the ball did hit Llorente's elbow before it his his hip (which you can see clear on a clip on the first link) ...and, apparently, the ref also saw that but ruled that the arm was not active in scoring the goal.

To rob a quote from a commentary of a Henrik Larsson goal v Rangers. That. Was. Sensational.

Just watched the end of the game in full. VAR changed the narrative with one decision.

Quadruple still a possibility to quadruple over.

Sterling hat-trick and winner to a two goal game in a losing effort.

World class performance by DeBruyne to an afterthought in post match discussions.

Pep legend retained and Poch the Spursy coach to Pep is a fraud and Poch is a tactical genius.

City’s mental strength to win out and Spurs being so Spursy to City cracking under pressure and Spurs showing great mental strength not to collapse at 2-4.

Spurs being a one man team to what a show of character without Kane.

There are more but that is a huge shift from one VAR decision that will live long in the memory and be discussed for years.

I don't really understand how, as long as footballers continue to have arms, you can take some consideration of intent out of the handball rules.

Last week we had Rio adamant that the Danny Rose penalty shouldn't have been given because he can't reasonably put his arm anywhere else. This week he thinks the goal shouldn't have stood. Even accounting for the bias of a former defender, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

After seeing the Eriksen's back-pass again and again I am still flabbergasted about his decision :banghead: What on earth were he thinking  It must be the worst misplaced/most brainless pass in his whole life. Talk about being saved by the bell :happy:

One fan joked: "Absolutely extraordinary level of genius from Eriksen to spot Aguero offside and play it off a City player to waste time and stop the goal from counting."

My understanding is that when Son got his yellow, his 2nd yellow since the 1st round, it earned him a 1 match ban. After this game ended he has no yellows left to reset as they've already been converted to a ban. If he wasn't booked last night his 1st yellow would have been reset. So the ban stands...

That was my understanding at the time, hope I'm wrong...

He was booked twice during the group stages. Three bookings before the SFs will earn a suspension. This was his third booking in this season’s CL.
