I actually think that is a well thought out line up by Ryan
Agreed. If you go toe to toe with City then you’re asking for trouble. He’s put out a team with work rate. Work hard, stay in the game and then bring on the likes of Bale to win it later. At least it looks like he has a game plan.

We're blatantly trying to take this deep into the game, then bring on Bale and Tanguy against more tired legs. Rather that than them be burnt out after 70 mins and have no game changers on the bench. If we stop poking ourselves in the eye for a minute, you can see a bit of logic.

So, let’s hope my day improves... just been diagnosed with shingles hah. Stress and a Spurs fan goes hand in hand.

I imagine, and obviously I’m not in Ryan’s head, but it’s something along the lines of yes Tanguy is a far superior footballer to winks, however he isn’t great at tracking back, staying with his man and keeping the midfield structure so put Winks on and have someone in there who will do the defensive part a bit better. Winks next to Hojbjerg and at least then we should have a central midfield who will actually stay in midfield.

Lucas in for Bale I’m guessing due again to defensive energy and tracking runners.

Maybe he’s planning to keep it tight (oh no) and then bring in Tanguy and Bale later to try and grab the win.

Personally I’d have started Bale, but I think I’m terms of Tanguy if we look at his last few performances he’s certainly not been at his best.

I think he has the line up right. City playing with 6 midfielders. We need players with fitness and that's what he has gone with

Have some people forgotten that the second half and substitutions are a thing and factor into overall tactics and line-up decisions. I personally would probably have started Bale, but can see why he's gone this route.

Headless chicken Lucas, I don't see the point at all.
If you want a goal threat you play bale

If you want workrate you play Lamela. Suppose he may have his one in thirty game today where he's unplayable

There is some sense in playing Winks as a counter to Foden, although that kind of overlooks the gulf in class between the two...

A player who is still not fully match fit Lo celso, ahead of Lamela who is fit and in form. Coupled with Winks ahead of Ndombele. If I hadn't thrown in the towel already, I would have done it now!

I’m no fan of Winks but some of our worst performances this year have come when we’ve tried to fit both Ndombele and GLC into the starting XI. So I don’t mind that we’ve sacrificed one of them today, and Winks is much more comfortable with the ball than Sissoko so I’m ok with that.

As for Moura over Bale, which of those two is likely to offer Aurier more protection?

Putting a spin on this it's a 5 sub game and the 2nd half could be the half that wins it so maybe it's good we have some strength on there?
