I'm just going to sit this one out. If it happens great, but I don't expect it and not going to get hyped about it.

You know "that" player we get linked with every year which always ends in disappointment....

This years is here.

If these rumours are true, I think we should give the club credit with how we're trying to play this transfer window. In a year where reams of money will no doubt be spent at will, we've identified those young players who's contracts are running down who would make a difference.

Gotze has the ability to become world class, however I can't help thinking that if he joins us it'll be because he's seen how the Modric's and Bale's of this world have used us as a stepping stone in order to move to one of the elite clubs.

Then he's got it the wrong way round, given that he is currently at Bayern, one of the world's most elite clubs.

That's fine by me as long as he gives everything for the football club and helps us reach the next level.

No problem with that. Sounds like if we do get him it would be at a cut price due to him being in last year of his contract. Say the fee is 20 million, he pushes on and reaches his potential and becomes World Class. We get a world class player for 2-3 years and sell him on for 40-50 million. Who knows, by that time with consistent CL football and the new stadium, he may just stick around as we would hopefully have the financial clout to sign other world class players to add to our growing stable.

I see no downside to this signing. He is young enough to where his value is either going to hold and we would get remibursed on our money or he pushes on and we have one of the hottest commodities in football. I think Levy probably sees it the same way which I think is why he might really like this deal and could get it done.

He's already been at an elite club, don't think it would be the same situation at all.

If Gotze comes here, I think it is with an eye to re-gaining starting XI status in Germany, and then with one of the big(ger) clubs. No shame in that for him, or us. He may like it here, and decide to stay for a bit - particularly with the new stadium coming - assuming things go well these next two years.

If he goes back to Dortmund fair enough - there's a very big playmaker sized hole there at the moment. PL would be a bigger leap of faith, maybe he's not up for it.

I don't understand why some think he out of our league or that he would be best signing ever. In my honest opinion I think eriksen is a better player. But I would be happy if we signed him but I'm not getting over excited.

I suppose that's possible (we did have ITK recently that Poch turned down Sanabria after meeting with him), but Götze is hardly an unknown quantity. Surely his reputation precedes him and he either would have been on Poch's list of players to target or not before we ever got involved.
It's more likely that he wasn't on the list but an opportunity is presenting itself so we are having a good close look

If he indeed goes to Dortmund it would seem a very Lebron James thing to do. Leave the team that made you a star to chase money and titles then return to reclaim hero status. Only caveat is that Dortmund fans seem way more intense so it may all go

Don't returning transfers just happen though without speculation.

Dortmund fans seem to really be stinging over his departure, but I would put the smart money on him returning there.

That's not to say we are a definite no...you'd think Bayern would rather sell him to us than to their main competitor in Germany.
