Montoya attracts interest from Spurs, Liverpool and Roma
The lack of opportunities for the full-back and his desire for regular first-team football have put many clubs across Europe on the alert.

Contract renewal talks between Barcelona and full-back Martín Montoya have come to a standstill. The player has an agreement with the club until June 2014, as do Pinto and another homegrown player for the future, Marc Bartra.

However, the lack of opportunities for the defender, along with the desire to push on with his career, have put many clubs across Europe on the alert, including Tottenham, Liverpool and Roma.

In fact, speculation linking Montoya with a move to the Premier League or Serie A is nothing new and occurred during his time in Barça B, when his contract renewal was far from cut and dried.

Well, if he wants out of Barcelona the only reason could be a lack of first-team football.

And to be honest, he won't get it here, not with Walker being arguably our best player. I'd rather back up Alves than Walker.

I think that he has featured quite a lot as a left back aswell. Could be wrong though...

Not every Barca player is necessarily the mutts and though he is OK and can improve I think there are better options. Apparently contracts talks with Barca are still ongoing anyway

It's weird as they took the number 2 off of Alves in the summer (relegating him to no. 22) and gave it to Montoya even though he's not displaced Alves??

Dani Alves chose the number in tribute to Abidal- He was hardly "relegated"

Alves wanted 22 because is was Abidal's old number and considers him a mentor

Yeah someone already said on here ta and I promptly googled it 9I'm sure I googled it in the summer and nothing came up, which was odd).

I'd just have kept no.2 myself lol. :sneaky:

Montoya is a decent player, nothing that special. If he were a great player, Barcelona would try harder to keep him by offering him more money.
