Martin Petrov

Again Bulgaria vs. Belarus. This time 2:1 for Bulgaria with no goals for Berba but see the first goal for Bulgaria. Absolutely incredible free kick by Martin Petrov. Тhe second goal for Bulgaria was a combination between Martin Petrov, Stilian Petrov and Chavdar Yankov playing for Hanover in Germany. I'm writing this post because of the Tottenham's interest about Martin Petrov. Berbatov was poor this game and that made me sad. But I believe he is tired after this season and the pitch was bad cos' of the rain. Let's wish a nice summer to all our present and future footballers! And the next season, strong team and champions league :)

Has it all gone quiet on this one? Would the exit of Torres increase or decrease our chances of taking Petrov from Atletico?

If the Kaboul transfer is being held up to coincide with our new tax year/Jul 1 contracts issues, maybe other transfers will be held up too - tho must admit at mo only expect to see Kaboul unveiled on No Smoking Day or day thereafter.

Maybe our funds are awaiting clearance from the high interest savings account?

Be great to see this guy on our left next season.

ide like to see us bring in Drenthe or Ben Arfa as well to understudy.

If we bring in Bent, then I think we will sell both Mido and Defoe. In which case Ben Arfa would be a great signing, as he is either a LW or a striker. I think 4 strikers is too many to keep happy but Ben Arfa would make it more like 3 and half (if you get what i mean).

I don't know about it from our side of things, but it's very unlikely that Atletico would let him go unless they had a replacement lined up - they're in for Reyes but there's no guarantee that they'll get him, he prefers Sevilla and they're interested in him, but other than that I can't see them selling easily. They didn't have the best of seasons last year and look like they're going to lose Torres at last, the fans would go mental if they lost Petrov as well.

Having said that, they're already building for the future what with having signed Aguero last season and having just signed Raul Garcia from Osasuna, plus recalling Arizmendi from Deportivo - so maybe they are already making the moves necessary to cope with big losses like Torres and Petrov.

So would SWP.

I'd like us to sign SWP, but whilst I agree he could potentially play as a striker, he is in reality a winger, whilst Ben Arfa is every bit as much a striker as he is a winger. I'm pretty sure I read he even considers himself more of a striker or at least would prefer to play there.

Dont care who we buy as long as he is naturaly left footed,i cant believe Jol and Comolli haven't managed to pin down a player yet,it will be unforgivable if we start another season playing a right footer cutting in on his right foot to cross the ball.......SORT IT OUT:bang:

We have Bale.

It's been explained a bazillion times before. Left-footers don't grow on trees, left footers that can play on the wing are fewer still, and ones that can do so effectively (or to the standard we require) are like hen's teeth, and clubs lucky enough to have one are understandably reluctant to let him go. 'Any old shit as long as he's got a functioning left foot' will not do.

And we could sign Downing or MGP and people would still be complaining.

It is hard enough to sign good players fullstop. Only 11% of people are left footed (according to wikipedia). Therefore, good left footed playes are very, very hard to sign.

Martin Petrov is like his compatriot Stoichkov in many respects: pace, aggressiveness, a great taker of set pieces, a superb left foot, a "bad" character. I would say he's a bit better at crossing but far worse at scoring goals. That's the huge difference between them which makes Stoichkov a different class.

Stoichkov is one of the best goalscorers to ever play the game, what an incredible player.
