What a shambles this window is.

Our rivals signing top class CMs. Kovacic. Keita. Fabinho. Jorginho. Fred.

What are we doing? Struggling to sign Grealish from championship Villa.

Our CM currently consists of Dembele who wants to leave and is past it. Wanyama who is a crock. Winks who is also always injured and hardly top class. Dier who might be needed at CB anyway because we are selling Toby to another rival.

This window is actually pathetic. 2 days left, wtf is Levy playing at.

I hope the bullish happy clappers enjoy watching us try to compete against our rivals this season with a non existent CM.

I still haven't forgotten City away when Winks and a half fit Dembele got utterly schooled in midfield.

The point your entire spew is missing, is that at the point of typing, Dembele, Winks, Wanyama, Dier (/Toby for arguments sake) and even the likes of Sissoko (mainly deployed by us in CM), Onomhah (CM with potential who is at make or break point) are all currently at the club. We, like all the top 6 barring Liverpool, spend roughly 50% of our turnover on wages. Liverpool are mental, but even the sugardaddy clubs don't spend more than this range. Therefore, regardless of transfer fees, if we already have more than enough in CM competing for 2/3 max positions, we can't possible justify bring in more players for the role while all these players are still at the club. We just aren't in a position to do so, at least not if we also want to spend an extra £5m a year to pay Harry Kane to stay here (not to mention whatever it costs to upgrade other key player contracts).

Injured or otherwise, Dembele, Wanyama, Winks, Sissoko, Dier, Onomah are all collectively earning around the £18m per year mark without bonuses (and that's a very conservative estimate). We can't go signing Kovacic, for instance, who will be earning a minimum of £6m per year I'd wager (pun intended) without shifting some of that first, or any other central midfielder for that matter.

Same situation for up front where we already have Dele and Eriksen (rumoured to have signed new deals by ITK), Lamela and Son (just signed new deals) and recently bought Lucas Moura from PSG (where I imagine he got used to earning a fair whack). Even Llorente up front, however highly you rate him, will be earning a lot, he was already used to PL wages at Swansea, he'd previously been at Juventus earning a lot and he's a world cup winner.

Then there's the satellite players, Nkoudou and Janssen, between them may not be earning at the rate of the other players mentioned but won't exactly be on peanuts.

You may not be happy with our CM options but the truth is that unless we free up wages, as we are already spending roughly 50% of our turnover, we can't risk bloating it up more than it is. This doesn't make us small time and it doesn't make Levy unambitious, as we are spending no lower a proportion of our turnover on wages as the other top 6 sides (once again, barring the mental scousers). We just have to do things a certain way, and the sooner you accept that the only way Spurs will ever operate is in a self sustaining way, the sooner you'll stop getting so het up unnecessarily.

Deary me. You've been saying it all summer. Less than 48 hrs left and you still kid yourself that we will significantly strengthen. Hahaha.
Whilst you rush from thread to thread with with your moaning posts. We all know where you stand as you never miss an opportunity to tell us relentlessly.

We’re 6th choice, 5th at best, for any top player coming to the PL. The other 5 pay more than us & currently more prestigious as well. Of course Kovacic is going to choose CFC over us. CL or not they pay more than us, are currently far bigger & realistically offer more chance of trophies too.

p.s. Was he even a target? Apart from our fans making him one, and the other fantasist link in dubious papers, I didn’t see anything significant to say we were ever interested in him.
Have u saw anything significant to say we r in for anyone other than a championship player. No way we make top 4 this year ...not a snowballs chance in hell

Telegraph piece suggesting they are taking Kovacic on loan as a sweetener for Courtois and so that they can put the money saved on a CM towards a keeper. Zero mention of Hazard.

Posting three posts in two threads is hardly rushing from thread to thread.

Please forgive me for wanting Spurs to improve and actually win things. Because we aren't improving on 3rd place with the options we have right now, I can almost guarantee that.

It's pretty difficult to play football 2v3. Silva and De Bruyne would get schooled by Winks, Dembele and Dier if the tables were turned and they had no Fernandinho.

Yes, City's midfield are better than ours. What insight. The best midfield in the PL era is better than our midfield. I am confused as to why you are surprised by this.

Will still be very surprised if this happens. Kovacic wants to play every week, Chelsea are riddled with CM's right now and have no need for him. Kovacic would have to agree to go and I just can't see him doing it.

Maybe I'm kidding myself cos I don't want it to happen but equally the upside is that it would only be a loan if anything.

He would 100% start along side Jorginho & Kante and form one hell of a midfield.

I'm not surprised, but I'd expect the club to try and rectify it this summer transfer window.

It seems some fans on here are happy with our lot, that's the only conclusion I can draw from why people seem so ambivalent about our CM options.

What's so offensive about showing full support and trust in our best team in 50 years, our best manager in 50 years and our best chairman probably ever?

Because some of us can see it going tits up because of a lack of investment in the squad. If you seriously think Poch is happy with solely signing Grealish this summer, I can't help you. You already said he's the best manager and side in 50 years so you should be very concerned of the repercussions this window will have on both of those two things. Our key players will be very disappointed with the lack of ambition shown and our manager will be too. You can hardly say he's been backed.

It could very easily end in tears in a year or two. Poch isn't going to be happy just challenging for 3rd and 4th spot and nor will Kane.

1. The window hasn't shut yet.
2. Poch hasn't said anything other than he is very happy here
3. None of our best players have even been discussed as being unhappy or wanting to move on

You're jumping the gun a bit, don't you think? Your entire argument is based not only on things that have not happened, but things that nobody has even suggested is going to happen.

You're fooling yourself if you think these world class players are going to stick around here forever if this is the way the club is going to act.

Have you got any concrete reason to think the players you're talking about are in any way unhappy?

Or are you just surmising?

Only asking out of interest...

If Harry Kane leaves it won't be because in the summer of 2018 we didn't sign Anthony Martial or Wilfried Zaha. Fuck me

Has it been confirmed? I'd be happy with him on loan, especially if we could pinch him off Chelsea at the last moment as a fuck you for the Willian situation

Why would Christian Eriksen, one of the best midfielders in the world, want to stay at a club who won't do anything to help him achieve his goals? Why would Poch want to stay at a club who will only buy a player from the championship as he is trying to win the league, compete in champions league and win cup trophies?
