Im sure they parted in good terms, but the whole situation has ended in bizarre fashion with the loan limit.

Presumably the loan didn’t involve a fee & would’ve seen Atletico paying his wages instead. In which case they’d say it’s our problem, why should they be out of pocket on the deal.

Yeh if it was driven by Matt so he could join Atletico and he’s given up his contract with us then it kind of works out well.

If we’re having to pay off the rest of his contract so he can leave just because we fucked up on the rules then it’s embarrassing.

But surely it’s the former as why wouldn’t we just cancel the loan once this loan rule became knowledge?

Doherty was a disaster on two legs his first season here. I felt when Conte came there were flashes and signs that he could be a good squad addition but he never managed to make the next step and be more consistent.

And to be fair, if you can not beat Royal to be the no. 1 RWB in a team its best to leave the ship.
