Can we not sell anyone? This is getting ridiculous now. If there is no money abroad FP needs to create some links to English teams. We're going to have 40 guys show up to training in pre-season.

Good luck to Doc, seems a nice guy.

I have counted 29 senior players, 30 including Porro & Danjuma in the summer. No youth players in there and only 2 goalkeepers. If we bring in a couple more it's going to look very bloated.

This is madness to me. Respect to Doherty for taking this opportunity though.

Genuinely bewildering how bad we are at selling players.
When you wait for a deadline day to complete incoming transfer you have to keep other player in that position if it fails. So not much time to shift Doherty.

Paratici is actually terrible at shifting deadwood. We have like 10 players coming back in June from a dry loan. Ffs
In fairness, makes me wonder if it's a better strategy to continuously wait for a decent permanent fee and then loan right at the end of the window if we don't get what we want so we don't have to pay wages - rather than just let them go for free or a pittance. I guess we're probably getting some loan fees as well.

There's also more chances to sell players in future if they're getting regular game time.

Seems like we're kicking the can down the road but on reflection we'll have about 10 players to shift and 8 of them will probably just go out on loan for the season again.

I'm surprised myself, with Spence supposedly on his way to Rennes we are 1 injury away from no rotation at RB.
Only thing I can think is they're confident Moura will be OK soon and will use him as cover if needed

And player still has to agree to the move. For all we know Doherty refused couple of clubs and chose a loan to Atletico. Sometimes club wants to please players and compromise (Gil loan).

Shame to see Doc go, I always liked him but if you have a RWB in Pedro and a RB in Emerson (who can ‘cover’ RWB when asked) it makes sense to move Doc on, as he’s a RWB by trade and as we’ve seen, his RB and defensive duties aren’t as proficient.

A question though: Did this come out of nowhere as it seems, or was there any ITK about it? If the former just goes to show that the club ‘can’ operate in a vacuum when needed.
This has been quite a common feature of a lot of our transfer business over the last couple of years. There have been a few long-running negotiation sagas (like Spence & Porro), but lots of 'out-of-the-blue we've agreed a fee' transfers too (Gil, Emerson, Kulusevski, Bentancur, Bissouma & Danjuma all spring to mind).

It's what happens when you're in the top echelon of clubs and make shit signings. Exact same thing happened to Arsenal and United when they signed a load of shite - ended up having to pay players to leave or loan them out for years.

Very hard to shift average players on big contracts in a post-covid market when no European clubs have money.

Tbf, it's not just us. Clubs abroad just don't have the cash to buy players from a PL club at a fee we'd want never mind cover their wages. Particularly after covid.
