Metro (so obvious salt needed) report we will make a £14 million offer for Destro. Can't say I follow serie a that much so don't know too much about this guy, but he's coming off a decent season stats wise and is in Italy's World Cup squad. His is one of those names I see crop up all the time as a hot prospect but have never actually got round to really checking him out. Also Baldini will know him from his Roma days?

We'd be extremely lucky... Roma would laugh off 14m.

one of those all around centre forwards that will most likely hit the elite bracket of strikers.

£14m?

Wolfsburg were rumoured to be making a €35m bid a few weeks back

He's probably the best and most realistic striker we could get.

I'd be over the moon with him.

I've only ever watched him back in 2010 playing for a very poor Italy U19 side.

Presumably he's come on a bit since then .

Would imagine our relationship is strong with Roma over the Lamela deal but there does seem a great disparity in what Destro would set us, or any other suitors back.

Good player though but I highly doubt this is a deal we would secure.

Why is that? Is our relationship strong with RM after the Bale deal??

All seemed very amicable so would imagine if Roma were prepared to let him go then a deal could be done with reasonable co-operation.

Would of thought that would be Schalke but bow to your superior Bundesliga knowledge.

People mistake revenue with riches. We make the third most in the league, after Bayern and Dortmund, but there's no way we could just spend £50m in one window. We couldn't afford to fix our own stadium roof a few years ago. Wolfsburg could spunk £100m if they really wanted to, easily, but they're well run and wouldn't just go over the top on salaries.

Compare the transfers between us in the last few years as an example

If Wolfsburg had a better Sporting Director for the last few years then they'd be doing much better, although they did of course win the league a few years back. Their problem has been that they've made a lot of bad signings and players have come in and left too quickly. If our scouts and youth system weren't so good they'd be much closer to us, but since appointing Allofs they've made some smart acquisitions and I expect them to make the top 4 next year. They're ambitious though and they wont stop there and will keep building on what they've got
