Some of the comments in here are disgraceful, whatever you think of him as player, have some respect. As a person he seems a top bloke and a gent.

Anyway don't blame Daws, blame the manager for picking him. He probably shouldn't be captain since his place isn't certain, and our best pairing is definitely younis and jan. Vlad would also be pushing for the third spot in all honesty. Seems tim may be starting to realise this considering our last pl lineup. Still think he is a valuable squad member.
This is nothing... You should see Tim's thread.

Lets be honest he does do this, in fact last nights goal came from him trying to win the ball ten yards inside their half. He missed the challenge and left Jan with two forwards running at him, not letting Jan off the hook but he was left exposed ( again) by Dawson.

Did you forget about Danny Rose?? Over the 90 minutes Verts was no better than Dawson and i will bet Dawson won more of the balls in to our box than his CB partner did.

Most people only ever see "mistakes" "Errors" not just the ones Dawson makes, but players in general. It is what they will highlight over and over again in their summing up of a player during 90 minutes football, even if it's the only one they make all game(Not you i am having a pop at here though mate)

Any knowledgeable football fan will be aware of Daws shortcomings.

What irks many on here is the absolute refusal to slag other players who are as guilty of even more glaring errors.

And what is worse, those who make those errors don't even have moments in the match when they make clear goal attempt blocks, putting body and soul on the line, like Daws does.

A bit more equality in the slagging of individuals is needed.

To be fair to Scottish Spur, this is a thread about Michael Dawson.

If you like, I can start a few threads on some of my other Spurs-related pet-peeves...Lennon's crossing, Walker's positional sense, Defoe's inability to stay on-side, Kyle Naughton... but I'm not sure I can stand the abuse.

Not sure if this is tongue in cheek or not.

If not, then how about we leave the slagging of players out altogether?

When I see threads like these, I have to wonder what the ratings of certain players are like on fm

Dear Michael

Please stay away from the half-way line, as you always get mugged.
This is obviously a gross overstatement
and undermines the whole basis of you contention.
Daws like many centre halves will attempt to 'steal' the ball
with an attempted interception.
Rose and Walker often do the same.
A lot of the time it is successful and the mark of a good defender.
David Luiz is often undone by the same tendency.
Daws is usually successful at this in the air
but is occasionally caught out on the ground.
If it's on the half way line it shouldn't matter as full backs and his partner should cover.
Against Dnipro Vertonghen had ages to tackle, but Daws gets the blame
for attempting to snuff out the attack before it started.
A commendable fault in my eyes
but cover is required if he is going to make it a feature of his play.

Some of our players seem unable to "think" for themselves never mind anyone else, but you are correct, covering players should have tidied up that mess. We all know Dawson is probably going to sell himself a few times over during a game, maybe if the players showed better anticipation off the ball(most of ours suffer from a lack of that, whilst on the ball to be fair) potential dangerous situations would be cleaned up with minimal of fuss.

We should never ever concede a goal or a penalty from the half way line from one individuals error, unless you are totally throwing caution to the wind chasing a game in the dying minutes, only then is that acceptable imo.

Please people think before you post OT like this. It is as some have said, embarrassing.

He goes in 100% even if he has 1% chance of winning the ball. So easily wiped out of the defence when it doesn't come off. When it does, it looks good. But its way too risky to play like that.

Can I be clear: I'm not blaming Dawson for the penalty.

I'm just saying that I find watching him make the same mistake over and over again incredibly frustrating. Newcastle away 2006-ish is the first instance I remember. It's like he's got a blind spot in how he reads the game.

Clearly some of you share this view; others seemingly want any dissenters run off the forum.

Some of you genuinly believe that Tottenham should go the whole season not letting in ANY goals and that defenders at other clubs NEVER makes mistakes.

Loads of negative alerts for having the temerity to suggest that Dawson is crap !

Are most folk on here blind or just delusional ? How can anybody possibly rate Michael Dawson ? He's fucking woeful, each and every week. We could get any two bob centre back to 'throw themselves in front of the ball'. He's a centre half and paid thousands ! Blocking the odd shot or two is a pretty basic requirement to those of us that have a clue.

It seems that to many on here, a defender doing a spot of defending is worthy of plaudits !

lol at the overreactions itt. people are entitled to an opinion and it is not like there is even a shadow of doubt that he is correct in this case. is it a crime to point out our weaknesses now?

dawson always gives 100% and is fully committed to the club and i admire him for that. however, he should be rotation/back up option primarily used against barbarians like stoke or sunderland. there is obviously a reason he gambles in these situations (lack of speed/agility), but i believe it is the wrong decision a large percentage of the time and wish he would drop deeper where at least he can stay in the play even if he is unlikely to be in complete control.
