We've shifted Dier, Phillips, Sanchez (and Spence) from our defence and only replaced them with Dragu, surely Kelly or some one similar needs to happen.
Do we? None of those have been playing. We’ve added Dragusin. Romero and Davies have deputised well. VDV and Romero are coming back.

Not sure we need hin

Probably should be cross-posted in the Unpopular Opinions forum but

…I’m curious why we haven’t at least kicked the tires w/r/t Marcus Edwards. He’s electric - completely destroyed us last time we faced Sporting in CL - *and we get a sell-on discount.*
Geeky bit of maths I know but it’s really not right to talk about a discount for edwards. Let’s keep the numbers simple and say he’s a 50m player and we get a 50% sell on fee. So great, we can buy a 50m player for 25m.

but if we buy another 50m player, and someone else buys edwards, we still pay out 50m and get 25m back, so it makes no difference at all. As long as someone pays for edwards we get the same value whether it’s us or someone else

If we don’t sell anyone, we may just stay as we are, which is still better position than we started, however I think outs will dictate any further ins now and may just happen.
- Reguillon out, Kelly in, freeing Davies to go back to LB cover.
- Hojbjerg out, Gallagher in if we can get him, if not, then either an opportunistic loan for Phillips or maybe another Serie A raid. I’ve seen links to Cristante on social media, would be very good, or Ederson linked via ITK. Any of those would be good for us.

Quite frankly I’d see that as a very decent bit of housekeeping.

Anyone else who gets an offer worth listening to, such as Perisic or Gil, I’m not sure we’ll replace them directly. Either sit on the additional space till the summer, or maybe use the salary space for some Udogie/Sarr type future transfers.

Think it's more a case of a player we like on a potential deal that's hard to resist. I agree we're not desperate for Kelly but we'll need someone sooner or later and he covers 2 positions.

Very hard to criticise our business and how the board has gone about this window. Seems everyone is pulling in the same direction behind the scenes.

- We've had contract extensions for 2 of our promising players.

- We’ve said goodbye to our long servants that haven’t been playing, thus reducing our wage bill.

- We’ve addressed the shortage at CB by buying to actually compete for a starting place, and given us some more teeth in attack.

- Found loans for our youth players that Ange must have deemed not ready yet.

Looks as if we are looking at Lloyd Kelly to further strengthen Defence and adding depth. Also sounds as if Højbjerg leaves, we will bring in a suitable replacement.

Want to give them 10/10 but there’s still 2 weeks left, so they can have 9/10 😂

Feels like if we were done this Jan, that would be fine with me. Another midfielder would be the cherry on the cake. But the most exciting thing, is that even if we are done this window...we're within touching distance of having the entire squad sorted this summer, and going into next season with an actually fully prepared squad to aim to win something, for probably the first time in my life. It's all clicking into place, concerningly.
Completely agree.

Actually disagree with this, I really like Emerson but I'm not sure he's well-suited to be a RB in Ange's system.
Really? He has no output but he is comfortable enough in transition. He obviously couldn’t do what Porro does (who could honestly?) but I think he’s more suited to Ange fullback than he was conte wingback. He couldn’t cross or have the pace to be the wide threat as a wing back but he can defend, has good spacial awareness and does ok passing. He looked decent in the opening game in that role.

Definitely not the perfect replacement but don’t know that there are many out there that could do better and be a reasonable backup center back too.

Ange said expect no miracles, but the transition of that from Aussie to English is actually “Well we ain’t signing Mbappe, but I know how to sweet talk like the best of em and dear old Daniel is going to get me a dragon, a lightning fast German lad, Bournemouths best defender oh and then we will nick Chelsea’s captain just because we can”

So 2 more to go for me to turn it from a 8/10 window to a 10/10 and if we signed those 2 more we’d just need to do some touching up mabye at back-up GK, back-up LB and one attacking player this summer and we’d be set to win it all…

I think it depends on outs now, mainly PEH.

But refreshingly spot on window half way in.

By and large you’re correct but there are tax considerations too (and cash flow)

Irrelevant because I don’t think Ange would ever sign someone with Marcus’ history of attitude problems. Jack Clarke would be more likely!

if we do nothing else it’s a great window. PEH should only leave if we get a replacement in, but I suspect the teams PEH wants to join won’t be the ones to pony up the cash. With everyone fit he shouldn’t get much game time anyway.

Reggie out makes sense, Perisic can be paid off or not registered.

On the ins my highest priority would be a youngster to buy and loan back. I love these deals. Kelly would be fine too, and he is homegrown. With Lloris leaving we will now have 4 goalkeepers rather than 5 in our PL 25 list, but that’s still too many!
Don't think Whiteman is/will be registered as he had a bad injury. So should only be 3

So far id say its a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 depending on what happens towards the end of the window. With that in mind..

Obviously this is unrealistic in regards to the amount of moves BUT if we are doing ideal moves from here on out i'd go with something like the below. It also wouldn't require a lot financially -

Outs
Reggy - (probably best we can get is a loan but ideally with obligation)

PEH - (would trade him with Juve for ether Yildez or Soulé)

Gil - (Like the kid but I think Soule, Yildez and Nusa all look better talents. Would probably be a loan but ideally we get a obligation)

Donley - (LOAN needs constant first team football)

Skipp* - (i would actually keep him now but look to move him on come summer and give his spot to Devine)

In's

Lloyd Kelly - (Makes sense for a low fee)

Hayden Hackney - (for me makes more sense getting a youngster and the more I read and watch him the more I rate him and think he'd be perfect for the system) OR

Yusuf Fofana*** - (IF we decided we wanted to spend more on a CM/DM and don't mind him being from abroad then this should be the player we go for but Hackney is probably the more sensible move)

Matías Soulé or Kenan Yildez - (swapped with Juve for PEH and dependant on Gil going. Can stay on loan in Soule's case)

Antonio Nusa - (loaned back, would probably relate to the above as Yildez, who is also mega talented, plays in the same position. If we were to only add one WF its a hard choice as with Kulu looking more like a no 10 then a RW these days a RW might be the better move but Nusa & Yildez, both LW, look incredible talents)

That would leave us next season with -

(? = future up in the air & * = yet to be purchased)

CF - Richy?, Werner?, Son, Veliz
LW - Son, Solomon?, Nusa*, Werner?, Johsnon
RW - Johnson, Kulu, Soule*, Nusa*
AM - Maddison, Kulu, Gio?, Donley
CM - Bentancur, Sarr, Gio?, Hackney*, Devine?
DM -Biss, Bentancur, Hackney*
LB - Udogie, Davies, Sess?, Kelly*
LCB - VDV, Kelly*, Davies, Radu
RCB - Romero, Radu, Royal,
RB - Porro, Royal,

There are obviously still a number of question marks there, CF being a big one. Will Werner warrant being purchased and will Richy earn his spot going forward. Solomon who knows, he looks to have the skill set but we have no idea currently. Gio, big fan of him and want him to stay and sign an extension personally but with his contract and injuries it is a topic that will need to be discussed come summer. Sess, who knows, probably will need upgrading but maybe if he can stay fit and Ange can reinvent him then we are golden. Devine might need another loan but we could also give him Skipps spot if we are concerned about numbers. There is also the reserve GK question that probably needs to be addressed at some point.

Realistically im expecting Reggy gone and thats it. Im not convinced PEH will go this window as I don't think we will receive an offer we deem acceptable but in an ideal world the above or something similar is what i'd do.
Really agree with all this. I would obviously keep Gio around if he signs a new deal as he’s just good cover and is only on 70k a week. We are shifting loads of salaries off the wage bill especially if peri goes.
In the summer the position I would look to go big on is CF. Just go against the grain of what we usually do and go big for osimhen or on a massive talent.

Sanchez almost certainly would have played a fair amount if we hadn’t sold him.

I believe Davies is injured.

We have VDV and Romero coming back and we have no idea how quickly Dragusin will adapt. Royal is a decent 4th choice.

I think we can get by on what we have this season. We will need another centre back at some point. If Kelly is the right player for this role, I’d like to see attempt to buy him now.

I regularly look at the BBC transfer gossip but haven't bothered recently and it occurred to me that I am pretty calm about what we are doing, I think we're reaching the point where we are no longer rebuilding just replenishing.
It's reflected in here too where people are posting that we need this or that position but I haven't read we're "crying out for" in quite a while.
Another couple out and we'll be in a very good place.

Agree.

At the beginning of the window I think centre back was the position we needed to fill. We’ve done that.

I thought a central midfielder was needed but on reflection we’re actually good there too. A young player with huge potential or a player good enough to start would be great, but for this season we’re all right.

Would be good to have a squad assessment thread in Spurs chat.

Agree. Emerson is a good player much better defender than Porro and covers 2 positions [CB in a pinch] He is a worthy squad player and top top attitude

Yeah, hopefully this summer is the last big shift of players, I think we'll see more outs than in and then as you say just replenish, look for potential wonderkids in the 17-20 range.

It's a simplistic way of looking at it but I always look at whether we have two good options for each position or not.

It's simplistic because some players cover more than one position, and we will hopefully look at more than one system across a season, but for the sake of this thread, below is how I see the squad (assuming one position per player and not considering the 'youngsters'):

GK: Vicario, Forster
RB: Porro, Emerson
LB: Udogie, Reguilon, Sessegnon
CB: VdV, Romero, Dragusin, Davies
CM: Lolo, Bissouma, Sarr, Lo Celso, Hojberg, Skipp, Maddison
WF: Perisic, Solomon, Son, Werner, Deki, Gil, Johnson
ST: Richarlison, Veliz

Taking them position by position:

GK: Would prefer a back-up keeper who is more similar to Vicario in style, but otherwise sorted.

RB: Sorted

LB: Unless Ange can work wonders with Sessegnon, this looks like an area we need some depth.

CB: Ultimately it would be good to have a younger option than Davies, but he's shown this season that he is more than capable of being our 4th choice CB

CM: Four superb players and three who I don't think are good enough. Skipp, PEH and GLC to leave and arguably we could replace with one player and then look at the yoofs.

WF: We're very well set here. Gil and Perisic are probably surplus to requirements. If Werner doesn't work out then we may need to go looking again.

ST: Richy is doing the business right now and if he continues to do so for the rest of the season then this shouldn't be an area we need to look at. Veliz needs time and I'd prefer to give him minutes than bring in an alternative at the moment.

So overall I'd like to see:

Out: Forster, Reguilon, Perisic, Skipp, PEH, Lo Celso, Gil and Sessegnon (assuming he doesn't improve under Ange).

In: GK, LB, CM

Obviously not all going to happen this window and personally I'd be okay if we had our current squad for the rest of the season.
I think Scarlett is ahead of Veliz in the pecking order mate. Big Ange bringing him back from loan innit.
