Missed Opportunity.....?

With the team relocating to Wembley for the 2017/18 season, and our current record there being less than impressive, have we missed an opportunity during the break ?
Would it have been good strategy to perhaps arrange a couple of friendlies at the new home and try and dispel all this ridiculous 'jinx' talk ?.
I suppose that if a couple of fixtures had been arranged and we had lost them then that would simply have perpetuated the myth and allowed the gloom and doom merchants to gloat. Nevertheless I would have liked to have seen the squad get some pre-season game time there with perhaps two friendlies against relatively decent opposition.
The Hong Kong trip was no doubt a huge commercial and marketing success and the International Champions Cup over in the USA starts in July but I can't help think that maybe we should have been looking closer to 'home' before kicking off at our new abode.....anyone else agree ??

I am sure we will have one pre season friendly there, probably after we come back from the US tour. Maybe the saturday before the charity shield? I agree it woild be better to get a few games there but probably difficult. It will be important we get some early wins there next season.

It only becomes a missed opportunity if the new season starts and there was not at least one pre season match at Wembley, until then..........................................

Does anyone even know if its possible to arrange a friendly there? Wasn't there some sort of cap on the number of games? Anyway, to make it worthwhile it'd have to be a high profile game and i'd imagine all those gigs are booked.

It's only just recently actually been confirmed that we'll be playing there. Meanwhile the current fixtures were confirmed a while ago, as mentioned above prospective opponents aren't going to sit around to wait and see, they've arranged games of their own.

Pochettino has already said we'll be training there as much as possible before the season starts. In an ideal world we'd play a game there and i'm sure if its possible they would or will do so but they've all played there often enough anyway........so missed opportunity? No. Sometimes its just how it is.

I doubt we'll have any public preseason matches at Wembley but I do think we'll train there and have behind closed doors games at Wembley.

If a pre season game comes out of our allocated allowance, I reckon they'd rather save it for a potential cup game later on in the season.

Maybe we will need a game there at least to iron out any crinkles in the seating plan, and general planning for the event. I know we had a few games there this season, but next season will be slightly different.

I hardly think winning a friendly there would dispel the 'jinx'.

Now you have mentioned the 'jinx' subject may I ask a question. Last season at home 19 played 17 won and 2 Draws a total of 53 pts. Taking into account the relocation to Wembley how many home points would you be happy with at the end of next season. Surely we cannot turn Wembley into the fortress that White Hart Lane became so what would be an acceptable figure ??
My thoughts are in the 40 - 44pts area. I'd be really interested to see what others think

Poch was asked in HK if it was possible to resize the Wembley pitch so it was the same as WHL and he said no. Why? Sorry if Have I missed a previous thread on this.

WHL is below the minimum pitch size allowed by the Premier League I believe. They let old stadia keep smaller pitches as they generally cannot be increased, but any new pitches must be a minimum size, and existing pitches that are above that minimum cannot then be reduced below that minimum.

I think.

No.

It only makes sense if you actually believe there's a jinx.

I think if the players are made to focus on it too much there's a risk it will have a negative effect on them. Just let them do their normal training (and I'm sure Poch will have organised it to take into account the pitch size), and let them take the whole thing in their stride.

Good answer.... So how many home points would you consider to be an acceptable total next season ?
