Table extracts from 2007/08 and 2006/07
2007/08
11 Tottenham Hotspur 26 8 8 10 48 41 32
2006/07
11 Tottenham Hotspur 26 9 6 11 30 38 33

It's interesting that we're only one point worse than at the same stage last season and in 11th place again. Last year the 27th game was a loss to Sheff Utd away but the season ended on a high in 5th place.
Now that we are showing some form and without the distraction of the FA Cup I think that we are capable of putting the same sort of run together as last season to reach 60 points again. It's certainly a tough task but not as impossible as I thought before looking at the 2006/07 game 26 table above - I had forgotten that we were that indifferent!

The gap is too much now though for us to catch up...be 7th / 8th if we're VERY lucky and go on a good run

Didnt know that! Curious to see the other teams above us last season though. I doubt there was a 5 point gap between us and 10th.

The difference this season is the disparity in points between the top and bottom clubs. Teams this year may escape relegation with as few as 32 points (West Ham went down with 42). The points 'lost' by the struggling teams have been won by the top 8/9 teams. If we win 10 out of our remaining 12 games we may get up to 5th/6th. A big ask.

Our last 12 games last season got us 27 points at an average of 2.25 points per game. If and this is a massive we can get something similiar then we may hae chance at 7th at best.

I was really optimistic and got us to 6th with 63 points but would also need a few results to go our way think i did it pretty fairly for other teams.
Just may have got carried away with are results

I got us up to 7th when I did that, mostly because I think City's win over United was just a 'derby day occurrence' as they've been pretty poor recently, and I think Pompey, Spam and Blackburn will also falter a bit.

Villa, Pool and Everton will be too strong though.

I just want a good performance for the rest of the season. Regardless of where we finish, just closing the gap on those who were originally so far in front would say a lot in itself and fire a warning shot for next season. Remaining undefeated should be our first aim.

Edit: Had us finish on an optimistic 61pts but still in 9th. We were only 6 points behind Everton though who pipped Liverpool to 4th by a point. Man Utd won the title 6pts clear of Arsenal with Reading, Birmingham and Derby going down.

 My thoughts exactly

The League is now a write-off but if we can just show good form and win the majority of our games....will be VERY happy with that and look forward breaking top 4 next season !

Ofcourse a cup would nice though

Yes have to say, again, that these 'what we did last year' comparisons are OK towards the start of the season because it reminds that you can still do something. However, they rely on the assumption that the other clubs are the same and this season we've had four doing much better than they were and it's too late.

Really shouldn't rely on the league at all for UEFA qual. I still think we can win the UEFA though when I look at who else is there and that's assuming we don't beat Chelscum Sunday week

Of our remaining 12 games, we're quite capable of winning 8 of them (Birmingham, Wigan, Reading, West Ham, Portsmouth, Bolton, Newcastle and Middlesbrough) and drawing the other 4 (Blackburn, Man City, Chelski and Liverpool). That would leave us on 60 points - but still around 8th.
Having said all the above, we are Spurs, so quite capable of losing the lot!

You're right. It's not only a question of how many points we're off last year's pace, but also how wide the gap is between us and those in front. Right now, the points gap between us and 7th place seems to be too wide, and unless we do tne impossible of netting around 30 points from our remaining games, and those teams above us suffer a major melt down, I can't see us getting as high as 8th.

Meh I got us finishing 8th from the BBC thing. I think the carling cup final will have a huge bearing on how we do. A heavy loss, or penalty drama will just demoralise the liek sof JJ and Lennon.
