Im sure Mark Bright was prasing him during the game.

Metro have probably found one quote from the whole of the 90mins and ran with that. Even though most where impressed with him.

Hopefully he will impress more as the tournament goes on. Does look a bit lightweight though.

With Modric, Lennon and De Santos in the middle of the park we will look like the Spurs under 12 girls team.

IMAGINE how much worse our set piece defense is going to be with these players.

We need the complete opposite of the players we are signing. We already score goals for fun. :bang:

I'd say the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes for the Austria game. Why do people have to see things in such black-and-white terms? There are shades of grey between 'totally useless' and 'next Maradonna' that most people ignore.

In the Austria game, to be fair, Modric *didn't* look like a world-beater or worthy of the OTT praise that Hansen et al were so quick to give. Equally, he didn't have a terrible game and was (relatively) one of Croatia's better players on a day where none of them really got into gear. And he scored a penalty. In short, a solid, but unspectacular performance.

But that's just one game. Over the international games that I have seen Modric play, he does look a potentially very good player indeed, and he should be far better than Bright's rather stupid prediction suggests. However, people should take care not to go overboard the other way just because Bright had a dig at him: he didn't look like a £16.5m player on the basis of that Austria game, but that's not to say he won't produce the goods over a full season with Spurs.

exactly my thoughts

Our defending of corners isn't going to be affected by having an extra short player in the team. How is it different having Modric, Dos Santos and Lennon compared to having Lennon, Malbranque, Lee and O'Hara? Our problem comes from players having poor positioning, losing concentration, not tracking markers etc. Lennon will most likely be on the halfway line for the break, Modric on the edge of the box watching the player on the edge of the box and Dos Santos taking the short ball. We are hardly going to have them watching the tallest players that is what our plus 6ft players King, Woodgate, Hutton, Bale, Berbatov, Huddlestone, even the nearly 6ft Jenas will do.

Just think how much better our passing and creativity will be.

Is Mark Bright the Mystic Meg of the Metro and can confidently predict the future, thereby guaranteeing who will be a successful signing and who won't.

He's obviously not very good at this prediction business, else he would have predicted Michelle Gayle dumping him and done something about keeping the little hottie.

Mind you, if his sex talk is as bad as his football commentating, I'm not surprised she got out.

I think Modric had a good first half and then went missing in the second as did all of the Croatia team. However it is a strong statement to make considering Rebrov was a good player who was never given the chance to prove himself and since then we've had such huge succeses in the shapes of Postiga and Defoe and Bent who all came at a price and haven't scored 30 in a season - is that the criteria to judge upon? Bright knows very little about Tottenham and even less about the Croatia players (he's probably seen Modric 3 times now, twice vs England and then the other night) I really don't think you can pass judgement on a player after one season let alone one game!

Shut up Bright.

Carrick didn't look spectacular either to be fair, not even in the 05/06 season, but he was consistent at doing a good job - never a world beater.

However now we go nuts for him.

Let's face it guys, there is no guarantee that a foreign player will be a success in the Premiership. A manager as good as Ferguson thought that Veron will be a big hit and was well mistaken. Before moving to Man U Veron was considered one of the very best playmakers in the world and failed. There is really no guarantee. Let's pray that Modric will turn out to be Spurs' Fabregas.

In football happen things that are unexpected even for the specialists. Santa Cruz was considered useles as he had behind him a long history of injuries and only about 30 goals in the Bundelsiga for 6-7 seasons there. He moved to a physically stronger league in which he was supposed to struggle even more from injuries. Yet he stayed fit and scored 19 league goals.

It was in Bright's Metro column, he wrote it, it wasn't just a quote they nicked from his commentary. Then the Mail have quoted the Metro column, because it was so silly they sniffed a bit of a story.

The actual Metro write-up of the game praised Modric and it was on the same page

who the f is mark bright?

I'd trust Wendy more than him, and when I watched Modric he looks great, tough to shake off the ball for little guy and hard and very very creative.

We've got some some depressive sorts on SC

Lets give Mr Bright a warm welcome next time he is at the Lane...... I would not have thought an ex pro would make such
comments after one game about another player.
I thought he done OK and looking forward to seeing him again.
Welcome Luka and make Mr Bright eat his words....

He was shot down in that article. When you get ridiculed by the Mail, you know you've reached rock bottom. Why did your wife leave you again, Mark?

Girly-voiced northern twunt.

He didn't really claim anything other than the one game didn't fill him with hope. It's a fair comment. He hasn't written him off or anything like that.

Personally I didn't think he had a great game. ATM, I'm not that excited about him but you can't judge players on one game (something a lot of people here ARE guilty of). Lets see him on Thursday.

I read this this morning. Pathetic.

He is the only person after that game that thought that. Its why he's a two-bob pundit. Hansen and co were singing his praises.

Hansen was singing his praises at half time, but was clear in his doubt at the full time analysis.....he said it was very worrying how Modric dropped out of the game and had no influence at all after the first half hour.....and wondered how he would perform in the Premier League.

I hope Modric proves him wrong!!
