I get the impression he's not top of their list though. Schweinsteiger is the one they really want so hopefully they get some encouragement on that in the coming days.

But yes it does seem as though the move he was referring to is this move to United.

Based on prior windows I'd have thought Man Utd would have gone for the following over Schneiderlin:-

Pogba
Schweinsteiger
Vidal
Gundogan
William Carvalho

However MS is a very shrewd signing for them and the sort of move SAF used to make.

Who's to say they won't look to partner Schneiderlin with one of these although i'd almost certainly discount Pogba from this list.

Schneiderlin to ManUtd, Imbula to Inter, Clasie to Saints, there's literally only Kramer left I suppose.

Dortmund recently signed Gonzalo Castro from Leverkusen, so they now have the following CM's:

Gonzalo Castro
Nuri Sahin
Ilkay Gundogan
Sven Bender
Julian Weigl
Milos Jojic

Gundogan linked with United but if he doesn't go there then it's possible we could go for Sven Bender.

Schneiderlin should not define our TW the way Moutinho, Oscar and Willian have.

I have faith in our new recruitment and coaching structure. I don't expect us to spunk £30m on a single player anymore, but perhaps develop a sustainable model of football (like Ajax), which means yes, we won't be in the 'top 4" by default unless we have a remarkable season and make some dramatically astute purchases.

We are clearly on the cusps of really good times if Pochettino lives up to the faith placed in him and the faith he places in our/his players, but with a new stadium coming, numerous young players ready to break into the first team things will be good.

I'd love to see the likes of Kane, Bentaleb, Mason, Rose, Pritchard, Carroll, CCV, Veljkovic, Dele Alli etc. lift a trophy for us. That would be far more satisfying to watch than the sort of success Chelsea and Man City have had of late. Also, I don't see how Louis van Gaal would have worked for us - he's too used now to buying his way out of trouble.

COYS.
Yep. Totally agree. The model put in place when Bulls cross was opened was rumoured to be akin to Ajax et al; and for that reason 25mill plus players are unlikely to be on our agenda unless deemed extra special. As we all are aware - and I have no gripe with this - we'll never buy like other rich clubs; if we were taken over by some free spending Russian, etc I'd start watching the Orient - my opinion, but really don't want spurs to go that away.

Injury prone but could still represent a good deal.

I would be amazed if Gundogan is still at Dortmund come September mind.

So sounds like we can finally put this to bed then. Really thought Utd would aim higher (Pogba, vidal, schweini) but he will be excellent for them.

We just need to move on and get a good backup option in. Kramer for me.

Pretty sure the ITK has stated that there are multiple targets for that position being worked on and they couldn't always give names. If Poch and Mitchell could only identify 4 players for that role they wouldn't be doing their job so well.

I know that, but I can't for the life of me see how it is even remotely smart to be looking further down the list of names. We've got plan E alternatives in the squad already.

Agree with this. Brining in the likes of N'Zonzi or a Moussa Sissoko would be pointless and just clog up the squad. Would be like another Stambouli signing IMO.

Well, from what I've gathered from the stuff on this site is that it's not so much a case of moving down to plan E, F, G's etc. but rather having a list of players who'd all be adequate for the role Poch wants. I get the feeling he'd rather stick with what we've got or try to develop a younger player rather than have Levy scrambling for cheap alternative toward the end of the window that he doesn't really want.

Hence my hesitancy.

Sure, just saying I don't expect him to shift Paulinho, Capoue etc. and then buy more of the same. At least I hope not :cautious:
This is my biggest concern, as I do expect him to do this. We've continued to go wrong in this key position for the last 3 windows.
