Maybe we knew all along that it was a long-shot, so we were/are pursuing someone else as plan A.

OF course this is just going to make for a manic monday in the morning.

This is how I read it. Weird that everything we've seen so far as that he is our #1 target... I think even from JJ himself before?

Probably just means that our 'plan A' is some mediocre squad player, and plan C was some unlikely possibility that a player capable of improving the first team might be obtainable.

I remember the summer when we lost Modric and Jj kept refering too 'plan D', which turned out to be Dembele and Dempsey. So maybe 'plan a' isn't refering to the top of the list, but to a name beginning with an A?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's anyone on the Argentine squad who fits what we'd be looking for. It's a mostly older group, Lamela is actually the youngest player included. And I won't even allow myself to dream about snatching Mascherano, there's just no way. In fact I can't really find a CM at any of the Copa teams who I would be excited to sign and who might be genuinely interested in signing for us.

As someone said in the previous itk thread, it could be sarcasm from jj where plan c was plan a all along after missing out on the first two targets. That would make more sense.
