One thing about Utd staying in for Schneiderlin. Why haven't they done it already if it's unrelated to Schweinsteiger?
Soton are clearly sticking to their valuation so it's put up or shut up.

They are in a good position, Southampton need to sell this window because Schniederlin's contract is entering it's final two years, they are realistically one of two serious CL contenders for his signature, and until the other one puts a bid in ManU can leave their bid on the table knowing until a better one comes along they are in a good position. Of course if another Cl club comes along and puts in a higher bid the situation changes.

Agree with that, but my guess is that Man U and Arsenal bid (say) £16m whereas Spurs bid say £20m

Man U buying Schweinsteiger may well make Southampton nervous that ManU will withdraw their bid, and may indeed worry Schneiderlein that they are not serious either, And Arsenal seem to prefer Vidal and will not buy 2 CM's

So I think its a waiting game for us - we may even make a lot of noises about going after other targets, and indeed if Southampton don't come back to us, I think we will sign someone like Mario Suarez as we will be nervous that they will drag the matter out just as they did last summer. Question is who breaks first - as if Spurs don't sign Schneidelein I think Southampton may well find they sell for £10m less than they want (or even find there is no buyer at that price this TW if we withdraw), so not an easy question for Southampton.

Give it a week and we'll sign MS - but which MS ! Suarez or Schneiderlein ?

if I were Morgan, and Utd had Fellani, Herrera, Carrick, Bastian and Blind, I would be a little concerned over whether I would end up spending half the season on the bench

Unfortunately for us and Southampton, players wield a lot of power, and I think Schniederlin wants Arsenal or ManU and it will mean Southampton possibly having to sell for less than they would hope, and not to us.

We are at an interesting stage now.

Our chances are still slim but the key thing in my mind now is making him feel wanted. If we really want him this is our way in because it is the one thing we have over the others. Our first choice and he has been Pochettino's first choice for over a year. Every other club wouldn't mind him but they are not too fussed.

Through Hugo or whoever we need to start making him feel like an absolute lord.

People who say Southampton won't deal with us I don't think so. Last season they wouldn't because they thought their fans might burn down the stadium, this year they know he has to go and funadmentally they are business people.

I'd wager we have at least one player in our squad they wouldn't mind as well.

Could definitely envisage a swap deal involving Townsend. This isn't ITK just general opinion.

Well it's just like Alderweireld. If Schneiderlin wants a CL club it doesn't matter what we do or Soton really. He'll end up at CL club come end of window even if they have to drop price a bit, no chance at all he's coming here much like Alderweireld ending up at Soton.

That assumes he only wants a CL team, or hasn't changed his mind. Players have a nasty habit of not always saying what they mean and/or changing their mind.

Schneiderlin may well want a move to Arsenal or Man United, but he might also prefer Spurs to another season at Soton.

Unfortunately I can't see this happening no matter what because he has stated so clearly he will only move to a CL-club. If he signs it will be so obvious that he didn't really want us. Imagine his Spurs TV interview... I can't either.

Saints decision not to make waves over Toby represents a sudden climbdown, which might leave the way clear for MS to move to us. I think they would prefer 20 million now - in preference to having an unhappy player around. A year from now he will be worth less with 12 months left on his contract.

If he comes to us he will be moving to a Champions League club, just a year early ;)

MS has stated that he would only leave Saints to join a CL club but that may still change.

He said that he would have sorted out any transfer issue by the end of the previous week but so far nothing has been resolved yet.

For those still wanting to sign MS,
There's still hope as the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

If United buy Schneiderlin & Schweinstager , it will be beyond ridiculous.

I hope United decide against getting Schneiderlin. If so, I certainly believe we can get him.

I think MS will go to Man U in aug. Most likely Man U would decide after their UCL Qualifiers? Priority for them to bring in BS from Bayern. Im wondering if both BS and MS landed in Man U, are Spurs looking at Anders Herrera as an option? AH would probably have lesser opportunity with the likes of Blind and Carrick there with BS and MS? I think he could be a top top Midfielder one day.

I dunno, I wonder if we are truly in for him still to be honest, if I was a betting man I'd say no. It doesn't seem like we're going to be spending £20m+ on any players this window and I can't envision a deal invoving Townsend unless MS actually tried to force a move to us and made life difficult for Southampton which I can't see.

I'm not greatly bothered now, I'm not sure exactly who is in the market but I'd just be happy with someone who plays a similar role to him to good enough effect. Someone who can shield the back 4 efficiently. It would be different if this was the only area on the pitch we needed to improve in.

If Yanited do go for MS as well as SS are they not simply becoming everything they hated about their neighbors? They spent a fair whack last season too

I think he will be at Southampton again next season now. I'm really surprised Man City haven't gone for him though as they seem so determined to up their home grown quota and also bolster their midfield.
