Maybe redknapp was our perfect manager then, happy to get old legends coming to the end of their careers

I don't know if you're are being sarcastic, but is it a coincidence that we were successful when Harry was here and brought in experienced senior pros?

No I'm being truthful, no anti redknapp spin. Maybe that's about our level. We don't have the patience to wait for youth to develop and we can't afford to buy the moutinhos so picking up a gallas, Scott Parker, crouch etc people who aren't expensive but do well in the set up

I think we do have the patience, the problem is we then sell them once they are up to the desired level.

Plus Southampton seem to do a lot of business with Woolwich. MS will end up there or at Old Trafford. Depressing.
Yes at the end of the day they know he wants to go so if they get a top price will cash in especially if they can stop us. Our only hope I think is to match any offers and hope he wants to come to us. I think this will need to be cash though so maybe it hinges on getting players out

Clearly the main piece to Morrie's jigsaw. If we can move Sandro and Paulinho-we've just replaced two fringe players with the missing link...just get him already!!

Its about balance though. Our squad was a mix of youngsters and older players. Parker and Gallas joined a team containing Bale, Modric and Lennon. Fair enough young players have a good sell on potential, but sometimes an experienced head is what we need. One of our issues last season was that we lack an experienced leader to steady the ship when there is potential rout on our hands.

Back to topic though, I really rated MS before last season when he looked like a solid holding midfielder. Now he looks like a top all round midfielder. Essential IMO, obviously Levy and Poch have their limit, but I would say he is worth upwards of £20m. It isnt my money though....

Sam Wallace who is main football journalist for the Independent has tweeted that we will offer 14 mill for Rodriguez tomorrow. Townsend part of the deal

Not true. He said Townsend as part of a £14million deal for Rodriguez...

Unless I missed something...

My mistake. It's Rodriguez not MS. Saw the tweet and got carried away.

The one big fly in the ointment here would be Townsend not wanting to leave. We are his boyhood club, let's not forget. He may be desperate to stay, and I wouldn't blame him.

£14m plus the £2m for Welbeck's loan making it £16m spend tomorrow. If we make a fair bit of that back from the Sandro and Holtby deals then it'd make for a decent window in terms of net spend and addressing the areas we need to strengthen.

Sorry folks, have corrected original post. I had Schneiderlin on the brain. Shame.

I'd guess that the club will have spoken to Townsend prior to offering him in exchange. It's a real shame that it's not really worked out for him as I love the fact that he's actually a Spurs fan, but he's a professional player. He'll think of his career and go if he's told that he's surplus to requirements.
